Ok here it is in all its glory. i cannot disclose the dollar amount but, if you have seen the classifieds i had been trying to sell my M2. it was pretty much a direct trade. value wise. I just want to say that i really love this bike. I have been waiting for this bike to sit in my stable for a long time. well only really 2 years.....but it feels like forever. i know the bike has some rash on her but thats a small price to pay for the bike i got. I know the following about the bike. I just did the noid mod in the garage before i typed this.(cause throttle closure is never a good thing. hehehe) It has 5,5xx miles on it. I plan to Fix the lights and paint it and ride it till the wheels fall off. i have been combing this forum for any and all info on this bike..like i said earlier just new to 1125 not buell. its amazing how much you can find on the web...... so without further waiting....here it is........

Looks like a small project, but one worth doing. Did you buy it salvage titled? Even though it looks minor, I'd advise you from personal experience to check the play in the steering neck/triple tree bearings. Even a relatively minor low-side can knock the steering bearings a little loose. That, and see if the forks touch the frame when going from full left to full right. Hopefully they don't. They should be limited by a tab on the lower triple tree and the frame. Other than that, not much I can say from the pics. Congrats on getting an 1125R!!!!! Hope you enjoy it as much as I do! :-) |

small rash?? it looks like the previous owner looped it doing a wheelie. nonetheless, it all looks cosmetic, which is easily replaced with bolt on parts. |

Great find! If it were me, I wouldn't replace any plastics...They can likely be sanded and prepared for a few coats of your favorite color!! |

Torquahoilic, Are you suggesting the fork stop check to see if the steering stops are sheared off, or is there some other reason? ac |

Avc8130, In response to your question: My bike was low-sided and had a relatively small amount of damage, mostly cosmetic scratches... especially when compared to the pictures posted above. Recently, I brought my bike in to have the dealer check the play in the head bearings. It felt like they were a little loose and getting looser. The dealer told me they wouldn't work on the bike as-is, the frame and lower triple would need to be replaced before they could guarantee anything. Obviously, I asked them why. The bike rode great and the damage was all cosmetic, as far as I could see. Apparently the fork snapped left so quick and hard in the landing that the steering stops were flattened to the point that the left fork tube makes contact with the front side of the frame. It doesn't look like much by eye-balling it, but the results are the clearly there. Of course, I went home and tightened up the head bearings myself and haven't had a single problem with it since. I posted a how-to DIY GPR damper install thread that covers the procedure to tighten the head bearings too. I will fill out the steering stops for that side to make sure they limit the steering travel correctly, but the intent of my message was to have him double check these things before he rides hard (potential safety issue)... and before he brings it into a dealership and gets told his frame and fork need to be replaced. |

Torquaholic, I am amazed your dealer noticed this. Do you have any pics of the damage? What is your plan to address it? ac |

Lovedabeuller, I don't mean to hijack your thread. I'm just here offering my input, having been in a similar situation as yours. Avc8130, My bike looked like this after the crash (having already replaced the left mirror that broke in the low-side):
I fixed the cosmetics for the most part and brought it to the dealership looking like this:
Before starting the head bearing job, they turned my steering full right to full left and noticed the fork tube was making contact with the frame on the left side. They looked further and saw where the contact points of the steering limiter built into the frame and lower triple tree looked flatter than the other side, allowing the steering to travel just far enough on the left side to make contact. I plan on filling in the lower triple tree boss with JB weld and a thin sheet of metal, not too much, but it should be enough to thicken it up to the point that the steering limiter works as it should, keeping the fork from touching the frame. Like I said earlier, I have already tightened the head bearings and the clicking is now completely gone when braking hard. I have every confidence that my head tube is just fine, the bearings were just knocked a little loose in the lay-down. Tightened them up and she rides great. When riding, I can tell no difference between my bike the demo bikes at the dealer. |
