Since I bought my X1 in 2004 I haven't really ridden many other bikes, and there's been a lot of cool stuff introduced in that time. The only new-ish bikes I have ridden in the last few years are '01 Speed Triple, '03 GSXR1000, '03(?) Yam R6, plus very brief rides on an '09 XB12R and '08 1125R. The thought crosses my mind every now and then of an 1125CR, or maybe an XB12SS (though the SS isn't really different enough to the X1 to justify having both). I'm thinking I'm a little bit behind on the latest and greatest, and I'm curious about a few bikes released over the last few years, so I've decided to make a bit of a mission to try and test ride a few bikes between now and Christmas.} On my list is: * Buell 1125CR (preferably with aftermarket pipe) * Yamaha R1 (cross plane cranks have fascinated me ever since I read about the U.R.S) * Aprilia Tuono * Triumph Street Triple R 675 (and probably 1050 Speed Triple too) * Ducati 848 (could be difficult) * Harley XR1200 * GSXR750 (I loved my old oil cooled 750) * BMW F800R (I just think they look funky ) * KTM SuperDuke (my friend Pete owns one and has been hassling me to go ride one) On the *wish* test ride list is: * BMW S1000RR when they arrive * Aprilia RSV4 (not the Factory) when they arrive. I've got the Buell, Aprilia and Triumph test rides semi organised, some of the others could be harder. I'm hoping to do a long test ride on the 1125CR. Feel free to suggest anything to add to the list, and I expect you folks to hassle me to complete the list And no, the X1W will not be traded or sold. That bike is a keeper, and besides, Vamps would kill me!!!! |

While you're at the KTM Dealer try and wiggle a ride on the RC8 also. Another bike of interest would be the Ducati Streetfighter. Both KTM bikes are worth the trouble of getting a test ride from the dealer |

Oops, RC8 (or RC8R) was meant to be on the *wish* list. Recent test in PB magazine of RSV4/RC8/1198/R1 suprised me, they rated the RC8 really highly as a real world road bike. I would love to ride the Duc, but I'm guessing my chances of getting a test ride are slim (I'm not very good at lying to dealers!). 690 - Will do! I love singles The original Duke is one of my fav looking bikes, though I've never ridden one. |

they rated the RC8 really highly as a real world road bike. I didn't have nearly as much fun on the RC8 as I did the 690. May be their riding style. I much more enjoy going fast on a smaller bike, than slow on a fast bike. To me it was just overkill, I'll bet I never used even half of what it had to offer. Although there was one guy that tried to use more of the bike... there really is a lot of plastic on that bike... or, there was... |

"I much more enjoy going fast on a smaller bike, than slow on a fast bike." I haven't told you about the RGV250 project have I? Hehehe Crashed an RC8 on a test ride? Owwwwwwch... Except for the 675, the XR1200 and the F800R, all the bikes on my list have waaaaay more horsepower than I would ever actually use, let alone need. But I'm curious to ride the bikes I've read about, probably the R1 most of all. I find it funny that as you get older... ahem, more experienced in life, you don't need as much horsepower. Well, I'm finding that anyway, and these days something in the vicinity of 100hp is about right for a do everything bike. Hmmm... I think I might have to come up with a score sheet for my testing, you know, to make it a scientifically accurate study. Something like a rating out of 10 for: Styling Ergonomics Practicality Fit and finish Brakes Ride (comfort) Handling/cornering/flickability Engine/responsiveness/acceleration Grin/giggle factor |

"I could line it up for ya!" Nope, I'm keeping you as my secret final negotiator if I... I mean, WE, actually buy another bike (She's the only person I know who can sell a bike for more than she bought it for!) |

I've always been addicted to V-twin torque. But, after seeing one in person, I would put a MV Agusta F4 312RR on that list. Glitch, you must have been at T.W.O. last year when they brought the RC8 back in the pickup. |

Super Duke was great fun. Got to ride it for a week while the KTM dealer worked on my Blast. Yamaha Raider handled better than I thought it would. XBSs fit me perfect as did the 07XB S. H-D softail deluxe was too short, but had a smooth ride to DC and back. XB9R was a hoot, turned just by thinking about it! BMW R1200RT was Teutonic, MP3 250 was bizarre, but kinda cool, Still want to ride: 1125r/cr XB-XT Suzuki TU-250 (hey, it's a thumper) XR1200 Sportster I'm sure there's more, but can't think of any. |

MV was a brand I hadn't thought about. Had a quick search and the importer here is in the process of relaunching: "The Paul Feeney Group is pleased to announce their complete re-launch of the MV Agusta brand for the Australian motorcycle retail marketplace. This full re-launch of the current MV Agusta model range is the result of negotiations between the Paul Feeney Group and the new owners of the MV Agusta Italy, Harley Davidson, locking in a long term agreement with Paul Feeney Group to be retained as the sole importer and distributor for the brand in Australia. An integral component of this agreement is a truly unbelievable retail promotion for the MV Agusta model lineup. The Paul Feeney Group in conjunction with MV Agusta Italy are proud to announce the MV Agusta 'Maximum Value Sale' retail campaign that will see savings on selected current models in excess of $6500.00." Turns out there is a dealer not far from me... Not sure if I really want to demo a bike worth $30k+, but Brutale's look awesome.... There is an F4 750 for $13,999 though "Super Duke was great fun. Got to ride it for a week while the KTM dealer worked on my Blast. " That would be cool!!!! I think I need to get to know my local dealers better |

In the past few months I've rode Can-Am Spyders, a Triumph Thruxton, Ducati Hypermotards, a GT1000, and a Streetfighter. The Streetfighter was brilliant but almost excessive. The Hyper was ridiculous and had me in constant fear of losing the license, the Spyder is strange but fun, the GT1000 a very throwback looking and feeling bike with surprisingly solid handling, and the Thruxton was the most fun due to the riding position and very, shall I say, undemanding handling qualities. It really has no poke but that's fixable. Eventually I'll be riding a 1050 Speed Triple, but it feels so much like my S1 sitting on it that I haven't made a priority of it. A few guys that've owned several bikes through the years claim that it's the best bike they've owned. |

Looking at downsizing my collection of bikes.... and focusing on smaller lighter featherweight displacement. www.derringercycles.com www.fxbikes.com www.sikktoys.com www.peirspeed.com (madass & x-road) www.whizzermotorbike.com www.scorpa.com (4tricks) the Honda 2004-6 NS50R Dream Cafe and yamaha if they ever bring out the trickster. Really looking for a bike that is under the legal requirements for licensing, ORV, riding out of bounds and the occasional skate park. The Burke Gilman trail slices through this city with almost 100 miles of traffic free black top... at 3 am it is all mine. (Message edited by cityxslicker on August 26, 2009) dead links fixed, sorry y'all (Message edited by cityxslicker on August 26, 2009) (Message edited by cityxslicker on August 26, 2009) |

I've ridden the Hypermotard, Superduke, RC8, every Harley but the XR, and every Buell model. All of them but the Harleys and Hypermotard were on the track. The Hypermotard would be a blast at the track, but the seat was terrible for normal riding. People (plural!) were standing up on our 20 minute test loop, because of how uncomfortable it was. The Superduke was a fricken blast! I wouldn't say it felt more powerful then the XB's, but the power didn't run out; it had quite a bit higher redline. Super easy to ride fast. The RC8 was not for me. It was uncomfortable, unnerving to ride, buzzy, and twitchy. I rode almost ten bike on the track that day, and this was the most difficult to go fast, and the least fun. Probably the most powerful, but that's not one of my biggest priorities. My wish list: XR1200 Triumph Speed Triple BMW HP2 Sport Duc Streetfighter That's not to say I won't take any opportunity I can get to test ride bikes. |

Not a whole lot of choices for tall people. I came |this close to buying a Concours 14 before I bought my Ulysses. If such a good deal on a used Ulysses hadn't come along when it did, I'd probably be baking my knees behind a C14 fairing right about now (now I just bake my thigh). I like the Uly because it's tall and light compared to those others, and I may very well stick with it. I've ridden scooters (that's a sight), dirt bikes (way too much fun), sport bikes (fun for only about 30 minutes at my height) and touring bikes (Goldwing - yawn), but I've never ridden a dedicated sport tourer before, so I'm most curious about those. Based on research alone, I'd say my next bike would be a close race between another Uly (incumbent advantage), a C14 or an FJR. Of course, the BMW R1200ST would be cool to try out, or maybe the R1200RT, or heck, as long as we're dreaming, the K1300GT. I supposed I should put an ST1300 in there for good measure. Of course I'd also like a WR450F in the garage for weekends, and a DRZ400SM to play around on, and a 1125CR for terrorizing the town, and the new R1 with the big bang motor for the back roads, and a cheap Gixxer 750 for racing, and a VMax, and V-Rod, and...this is quickly getting out of hand! |

Have in the garage S1W 02 998 mono 82 CB900F 06 VRSCR (V-rod Streetrod) 70 Triumph TR6R (single carb Bonnie, I think name was tiger 650) 71 HD sprint SX350 Ridden Most every HD model including the Screaming Eagle CVO specials (got to love bike week demo rides) KTM Super Duke and RC8 at BTF II Every current Buell except for the Uly, Loved the CR. I tried it with both bar set ups. I would get arrested with the P&A bars installed I have a standing offer to test ride a new Ducati Street Fighter, just got to get to Greensboro N.C. Looking to add a X1 or S2 to the garage soon |

For those of you who've test ridden a lot of bikes - How??? Friendly dealer? In the industry? Pretend you're going to buy one? I have a few spare hours tomorrow afternoon I hope... Do I go for a ride up Mt Glorious, or spend some time at the local Suzuki/Triumph/KTM dealer...? |

A lot of mine were bike week demos but I also have a friendly dealer and sales rep. I found that a lot of the local dealers during their open house events will allow demo rides. Right now I would guess getting a test ride will be easier than normal with the economy like it is. Some dealers know to sell the bike they need to put your but on the bike. |
