I wanted to see how much bypass gas my twin had. We can call it blow-by. I found it strange that the balloon just puffed up for a few seconds then inflated. The motor had been turned off for 12 hours. My system does not have a filter or catch-can.
That's pretty interesting. Looks like its all outgoing air... I never saw the balloon shrink back any. But why in the world does it take a few seconds to start inflating at all...? It's completely limp, then suddenly expands like crazy. Weird.
Ah, it just hit me, probably take a few seconds for the crankcase to build any pressure inside. Duh!
About the one directional airflow: I thought that was the whole reason we needed to put filters on the ends, because it breathes forward AND back, and could suck debris into the crankcase?
Might it be due to the oil pump scavenging oil back into the oil tank? Upon startup, as the pump is taking oil out of the crankcase, the engine is putting a small volume of gas into the crankcase. Then when there is no more large volume of oil to remove, it starts building pressure.
I think it just takes time for enough pressure to build in order to overcome that initial high resistance to inflation of the balloon. Anyone who's blown up the long skinny balloons, like clowns use to make animal shapes, will know what I'm talking about.
As mentioned above already, the downward stroke of both pistons will displace air/gasses in the crankcase even without blow-by. But the blow-by is needed to replenish that exhausted air/gasses, yes?
This is why I never bothered to put a superfluous filter on the end of my vent tube under my X1. I have left my ULY bone stock simply due to the fact that it doesn't dribble condensation on my right leg.
I've been telling people for years.. the breather "filter" is really just a breather "diaper" for the end of the line. If you don't have it there, there will be a drop of oil or 2 on the ground everywhere you part your bike.
The PCV valve is just a one way flapper. The different Krank Vents and their ilk that make all these power claims are just in-line versions of the same things. Which is why their claims are BS, if the first one way valve is functioning, a second one-way valve does nothing If they are functioning properly, no air comes back in that line.
Ourdee, I am interest in exactly what you did in routing your lines and how you made them. Do you have a step by step or pictures on how you did this and what parts are needed?
Instead of running it out the front, run it out the back. You need about 4 feet of 3/8" hose, a brass Tee connector for it, and wire ties.
