Author Message   Misato Posted on Tuesday, March 11, 2003 - 05:10 pm:        I saw one race bike (firebolt) online somewhere that had it done, anyone else do it? will it cause any problems being that its also the fuel tank? I know the warning label says not to do anything to it(weld, etc.), but would it affect the warranty at all? The walls are only 4mm thick, they are designed to give in event of a side impact this way you (the rider) are not taking the brunt of the force. Buffing your frame will cause you to void the warranty. I know that would be a huge project, I guess I'd have to wait 3yrs for the warranty to expire. I heard somewhere that chroming the frame(tube) makes them more brittle. is that true? However all is not lost, through heat treating the excess hydrogen can be baked out, giving the desired results without comprimising strength or ductility. They chrome piston aircraft cylinders all the time.
