There are cute little o-rings, p/n 26432-76A, that go around the cylinder stud inserts that I hadn't noticed before - two each per cylinder. The engine hasn't been installed yet, but the head gaskets have been compressed. Do I need to replace the head gasket when I remove the heads to install the gasket? |

Was it a new gasket set? If so, I think the new style do not use the O ring. Someone who knows for sure will chime in I'm sure... |

Yes, the new factory head gasket for my 2002 M2L did NOT require the o-rings. I had a thread on this issue earlier. Also, the Cometic head gaskets do not use the o-rings either. Double check the part number on the head gaskets you used and get feedback from a dealership. I'm not sure when they did away with the o-ring design. Hope you are lucky and have the newer gaskets and that will save you another tear down and gasket expense. Safe ride, Gary in Oaktown |

I torqued down my heads with new cometic gaskets then realized that I left a circlip off the side of each wrist pin pulled everything back off and reinstalled using the same previously compressed gaskets - 5000 miles now on the rebuild and no leaks. I'd say you can use the same gaskets. |

Thought I posted earlier, but I must have made an error. Many thanks for the input. I checked, and I have the newer gasket. No o-rings, and no teardown needed! I love this place!!! |
