Caution with the Mazda site. If it detects your browser is flash-impaired it will kick you straight into a download to upgrade/update, and if you're on an upgrade-no-no system all sorts of nasty stuff happens as the Mazda site tries to install an update to a computer that won't allow it. You need version 6 or better of a Flash viewer to view the Mazda stuff, if I caught it right before I had to crash out.  I don't like sites that don't ask me if I want to upgrade before they try to take control of my machine. | ||

Cowboy, Congrats. You have found the motorcycle mecca of Texas. 336 and 337 are good. There are many others. Get yourself a map that shows all the farm to market roads. The whole area is riddled with twisties. | ||

Cowboy, Congrats! You must take a leisurely ride down and back along the northeast side of Lake Travis on Lime Creek Road (see FM 2769). Hit it on a weekday during non-traffic hours. It is a real hoot! ![:]](http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/clipart/proud.gif) The roads that Hoot mentions are outstanding, but they are west by northwest of San Antonio in the Hill country, a good two hours ride from Austin. | ||

Cowboy, There are tons of good roads around austin. Most of the good stuff is south or west of town. The hill country is beautiful to ride in. Lots of great twisty roads near Lake Travis. My normal ride is on 1626 and 1826 going toward Wimberly and Dripping Springs. Check out Austin HD/Buell on south I35. They usually have maps of good places to ride. Jeff | ||

Cowboy, Blake is right. I wasn't thinking. When I think of riding in Austin, I automatically think Hill Country, which is West of there. Austin has pretty bad traffic, so I tend to go a good ways out of town to play. If you don't mind the ride, the roads are worth it. Either way, get a local map so you can spot where you want to go. | ||

We have two Buell riders on the pit crew so I guess this is Buell related. The Orange Crate Top Fuel Nostalgia dragster recaptured the National ET record this weekend at the Good Guys event in Famosa, CA. We set the record at 5.853 and backed it up with a 5.78. You have have to back up a record run with a run that is within 1%, so while the 5.78 backs up the 5.853 it doesn't go in the books. The car is driven by Roger "Radar" Lechtenberg (damn he's good!) and owned by Dale & Kat Suhr and is out of Waterloo, IA. We had a spectacular oil fire in the final round and lost the meet but still own the record. Radar also does the heads for Dave Feazell's ProStock bike. Last year Feazell was the quickest Harley to attempt ProStock. Greg ;-) ;-) ;-) | ||

Congratulations and applause to Miguel DuHamel for his victory in the Daytona 200 and third place in the 600cc Supersport race. Sweet vindication for the master racer after a year of Nicky, Nicky, Nicky. Proof positive that there is no substitute for predatory cunning, rubber-meets-the-road experience, and mature patience and planning. And a damn good pit crew. | ||

Gotta love a fellow gray hair taking his fourth Daytona Superbike win. Kinda funny though... Miguel was saying before the race that he was under the weather with the flu and only at 80% for the race. Yeah right! LOL. Too bad Gobert's Ducati B-bike pooped out on him. He likely would have made the finish more interesting. I was rooting for BBoz. Looked to me like if he had cut in more closely to the lapper and dove down-track he might have been able to shed Miguel's draft. When will Speed TV rebroadcast the Superstock race. I want to hear the Buell roar by amongst all the screaming GSXR's. How the hell does a 636cc bike win over a bunch of 750's? Are the 600's allowed more engine performance mods? I mean Tommy Hayden is good, but not THAT good, and on a high speed track like Daytona?... it does NOT make any sense that a 636cc bike would win the Superstock race. Interesting comment from BBoz that when at WOT blasting down the straights his front tire was rolling at 185 mph, while the rear was spinning up to a 200+ mph equivalent ground speed. | ||

Cowboy, Just Southwest of Austin are excellent roads. The roads within South of US Hwy 290, West of I-35, North of State Hwy 46 and East of US Hwy 281 are all scenic and well paved. I recommend any roads around Wimberley and Canyon Lake. | ||

Has anyone tried one of the GPS units (Magellan or NavMan) with a Palm M500 series? Magellan has $100 rebate (on the $180 adapter) and my company will buy the Palm (m515). Is it worth the $80? Would the display be readable while riding? | ||

Josh: I have the Magellan for my Palm Vx. It is, me thinks, next to worthless...although, in deference, I am SURE of the speed of the Staten Island Ferry (19MPH) and the elevation of our house. I've changed to a Toshiba e740 (call me a sucker for high speed access on a street corner in NYC - I am at 28th and Park Avenue South as I write this) and want to try the software for Toshiba. Pros: Palm battery good, Toshiba sucks Want me to send you this GPS? You can try it.... Court | ||

Thanks but I don't have a Palm yet. It looks like it got improved between the PalmV and the M500 series. This looks interesting as well. Do you know what versions of Map Companion and Nav Companion you were running? | ||

Josh... Take Court up on the GPS, and I will send you a Palm unit to try, an 8 MB visor (which I believe will work with a USB to serial adapter). If you don't want 8 megs, I have normal Palm III form factor units (with a normal serial port) laying around here somewhere. Avoid XMap. It has real potential, but it currently sucks. Also, don't pay more for higher resolution units (i.e. sony) for GPS usage. Everything is physically too small to read on the screen. The stock palm 160x160 pixels are enough if decent software could be found. That being said, there are used garmin integrated units (with integrated maps) showing up on ebay for the $300 and less. That is probably your best bet in the short term. The PDA units will get there, but they are not there now. | ||

JOSH, I have a Handspring Visor that I use my GPS on, the screen is kind of small, but it velcro's onto my tank bag, (or ziplock bag) in wet weather, and is actually very handy. My versions are 3.2 and 4.0 of map comp and nav comp. If you want copies of any software let me know. | ||

Kawasaki sells and races a 636cc bike. ONCE AGAIN, read the rulebook, the only people that get more engine performance mods and are excempt from homologation rules are twins. Tommy, the bike and his FACTORY TEAM are that good, a combination which is better than most of the Superstock "privateer" teams. Sure, it would be nice to race the Buells and 748's in Supersport, but the problem is, there's a bunch more riders, bikes and FACTORY TEAMS that are that good and better in the 600 Supersport class. This is a point I have been trying to make for a while, thanks for Tommy and Kawasaki for proving it, again. Unless Buell and Ducati want to field a full Factory racing team with a Homologated version of their street bike, they are better off in AMA Superstock or in Formula USA. ie, If Buell wants to race this in Supersport:  They need to sell the street version, with the frame slider mounts, the fairing, the ram airbox, the adjustable triple clamp, the chain conversion swingarm and last but not least, the extra 336cc's. | ||
