What is the common collector/muffler size on an 1125r. i am curious cause i am looking to do my own muffler. and i would like to do some research. what do you think is the minimum size you can get away with. I know this smaller will cause more back pressure.....etc..etc. thanks keith | ||

There isn't one. The "collector" is built into the muffler. | ||

Right. but for those who have an after market system it "y'S" off in to one then there is a single pipe to the muffler. so i would like to see the different size of the tubes. like is it 2" or 2.5" 2.25" maybe. my bad i should have been more specific.  | ||

Header pipe at the collector is 1.75" OD and after the "Y" on the Jardine it's 2" OD. Rough guess on costs will be around $300-400 in materials. Welding and time to mfg it is not an issue for me, just waiting for winter so I have a project to do. I'm hoping to do the 12k service at the same time. | ||

looks like 2 inch on the outbound end of a D&D mid pipe. Eyeballed with a tape, not actually measured for diameter | ||

Keith(Lovedabueller), I did my own system last year on my 2008 1125R. At first I did a system like the one posted by D_adams except I did not do equal length head pipes and I used two straight through fiberglass packed mufflers which it looks like they used. It looked nice but was way too loud. Just like straight pipes. I then went to a system using a single turbo type as in the picture below and added an insert to additionally quiet it some and add mid range performance made by "wwwcarchemistry.com" Good stuff there. What I ended up with isn't really pretty but its hidden behind my full lowers and the performance and sound was exactly what I was looking for. Not dynoed yet but it seems to rev quicker, pulls harder and goes to redline very strong indeed. H.P. is just fine for street use and an occasional track day. Sound is very aggressive but not exceptionally loud. Perfect for me. To answer your initial question my collector is 2 1/4" in and out. Muffler is a Walker 3 1/4" x 7 3/4" for good ground clearence and fits within the Catalyst lowers with slight dimpling as you can see and no performance loss. I am pleased with my project now and total cost of parts with me doing all the welding and fabrication was under $100.00. I also do not think it would look good on a naked bike. My AFV's with this system and the inner air box open are at 100/100 F&R but remember I am at 4500 ft. elevation. Bike runs strong and great with 03Z flash.  | ||

All kidding aside and I'll probably get some flack from this but I'm 100% with Erik and BMC about form "follows" function I just do not have the facilities to make the form beautiful. And I'm not worried about that in my case as the muffler system is hidden except for a nice outlet. I really like Kevins SS Drummer system, "www.kdfab.com" for our 1125's but all I wanted was about the same performance or better, which I got, with a little more sound and I could not afford the over $1k with shipping to get a system too loud for my liking. That could be remedied with an insert but why do that after spending that much money. Many people love it though as I do. Good job Kevin! |
