go ahead... guess! the aluminum o-ring for your oil plug... remember that you need two. so.... -3qts screamin' eagle synthetic... $11.49x3=34.47 -oil filter....................... $20 -(2) drain plug washers...........$5x2=10 for a total of 64.47 plus tax JUST on parts to do your oil change. and i have a problem with that. first of all; im not sipping on harleys screamin eagle kool aid any longer! i have a problem with seeing the same logo on my oil bottle that harley sticks on "screamin' eagle high performance polished chrome triple tree clamps". i saw one yesterday behind the counter on display at the parts department and it made me sick to my stomach. are harley riders REALLLY THAT DUMB??? (wait... dont answer that; i know the answer) there is plenty of superior full synthetic oil available that is almost $4/ quart cheaper than the crap they expect you to put in your bike! (cough cough redline, motul, royal purple) second: a 30 cent aluminum washer should not cost $5. ... if harley wanted to jack the price to the 'beginning' of 'unreasonable', they'd charge $1 for this washer. if they wanted to be 'absurd', they'd charge $3 for it. i don't even KNOW what to call charging $5 for this washer. but i know that i will be returning their $5 washer for a refund. i refuse to put that part on my bike.... times 2 of them. there are plenty of nuts and bolts places in town, on line and brake hardware and fittings stores that sell aluminum and brass washers that will do the trick. to be continued.... |

There is no need to replace the washers. Get some other kind of oil for 7 or 8 bucks a quart. The only thing you HAVE to get from the dealer is the filter. |

I see the bag in the picture. Double check it there should be one joint included with every washer. Smoke the joint and the price does not mater. It's a Harley thing. |

You are really gonna be pissed when they charge a buck for restocking a special order item. |

They want you to replace things to much. Yeah I realize it has been slightly compressed. but aluminum is still soft enough to compress a bit more. |

You are really gonna be pissed when they charge a buck for restocking a special order item. interestingly, my closest dealer has finally started stocking filters. they explained the washer, and i was pleased that they remembered to give me one also, since i had forgotten. they nicely bagged it back up and stuck it in the filter box, and i was happy as a clam. i had a couple other parts on the same ticket so i didnt think much of the price i wrote the check for until i got back in my truck and looked at the receipt.. and thats when my a@@ quickly got sore, and their nice gesture suddenly got a little bitter. i guess i could call myself lucky that its not a special order item?? |

Yeah I realize it has been slightly compressed. but aluminum is still soft enough to compress a bit more. im totally for replacing small wear parts like that... it doesnt bother me in the least bit to use a new washer every time.... assuming theyll give it away or charge like $0.50 for it.. my next hour will be spent searching the internet for a 50 or 100 case of either brass or aluminum washers like that to order. ill give them away for my badweb friends for free... just send a SASE to me and ill send you washers! just hang tight good buddies of badweb! |

.. for comparison, ive put 14 quarts of diesel oil plus a new filter on my dodge cummins for CHEAPER than harley expects you to pay for parts vs parts. its absurd to pay more to change the oil in my bike than in my diesel pickup. period. |

Just so you know, the price you dealership charged you for those washers IS the price HDMC tells them to charge as a suggested retail. Don't hold it against your dealer. |

oh i most certainly am not holding it against them!!!! it wouldnt surprise me in the least bit that this price is MSRP on them.. my 2 local dealers generally get pretty close to MSRP on every part.. the only ones i catch sometimes is them overshooting the MSRP on buell accessories like hand grips and the windscreen and such.... they have a 2-5 buck good customer fee automatically tacked on. ... i just want to figure out how to sell something i bought for 25 cents for $5 to someone... HD is doing SOMETHING right for sure! |

A lot of cars use "one-use" drain plug washers similar to that. Check the "Help!" parts at your local auto parts store; you can probably get a suitable washer much cheaper. (Message edited by hughlysses on August 18, 2009) |

At least your dealer has the right washer in stock. I GAVE mine the part numbers and they still ordered the wrong ones. Wont go in there ever again. |

Tony(Pizzaboy), many oil changes since my buy in early 2008. 5 qts Mobil 1 15-50 @ Walmart $23.00/bulk $4.60ea.. ......$13.80 1 oil filter at my HD dealer.. 14.00 Total $27.80 Although I bought an extra crush washer for the plug I'm on my original one and it does not leak. I carefully torque it. Mobil 1 has performed great. I change oil every 1000 miles. Just my cheap take on on this. Bob |

Those washers cost double that in the UK. I thought it was a strategy to repay for your help in WW2 I've just done a precautionary 1k mile oil change in my new Ducati and a 22mm alloy washer cost less than 50 Cents |

Bob: I know oil is "cheap" insurance but, if I changed oil every 1,000 miles I would do it every other weekend!! |

10-4 on the Mobil 1. Been using it since they first came out with it in the 70's. Great stuff. As for the washer, you can simply use a vacuum pump & can to empty the oil tank and never have to remove the drain plug. Been doing it for years; I actually use the same electric one I use to pump the pan on the 7.4L in my boat, but you can buy the manual ones at most auto parts or specialty tool stores. No muss, no fuss. Also is easier to fill from that to empty jugs for recycling the used oil. |

R, How much oil do you then add to your 1125r after using the pump method to change it? (The real question: How "dry" does the pump method get the bike vs. drain plugs?) |

I've got a hand vac pump. I used it the 1st time to help drain the majority of oil. I couldn't get ALL oil out with it. Maybe with an adapter that seals the vac at the dipstick, it might be feasible to drain the majority of the oil that way before removing the filter which would drain the rest? |

I change oil every 1000 miles. Just my cheap take on on this. Bob There isn't much cheap about changing your oil every 1,000 miles. At that rate, you're throwing your money away buying synthetic. |

Someone needs to cross reference to the correct size of AN-901 washer. |

I ordered the washers, and will be doing a search to find suitable replacements for a few cents versus $5. I use Amsoil, bought at wholesale pricing and shipped to my house. It's a little more than Mobile 1, but I like the convenience of just hopping online and ordering what I want. The filter should be able to be sourced somewhere too. I can't imagine Rotax invented a special filter just for the 1125 motor. Even the special filters on my Mercedes diesel powered Jeep can be bought online for a fraction of what the dealer charges for them. I'm a big advocate for oil changes, and I tend to change mine at very aggressive intervals. So I'll figure out a way to buy in bulk and save some cash. I'll let you know what I find out. |

Anything you buy from Harley is going to have a retarded markup. I cought a nail or something in the rear tire a few weeks ago & didn't want to wait around for a tire to be shipped so I shopped around locally. Ended up getting a Corsa III for $209 out the door…nothing amazing but $40 less than what Harley wanted plus a free mount & balance…..I got this "deal" at a jap bike shop owned by the same people that own the Harley shop & both dealerships are in the same parking lot. They also did the mount & balance the same day. Harley told me it would be 2+ days if I brought them the rim and 2+ weeks if I brought them the bike. |

H-D doesn't earn over $1 billion a quarter with tight retail margins. This is an example of how being tethered to the mother ship hurts- Buell customers are a different breed from the typical H-D herd. Kinda like Texas. |

Neither the oil nor the filter need to be changed every 1,000 miles. The original washer will last for many oil changes as has already been mentioned above... |
