I just returned from a great 11 day ride from Maryland, up into the Canadian Maritimes and across Maine, NewHampshire, Vermont (Rt17 is not to be missed, especially the stretch around Mad River Glen) and into the Finger Lakes region of New York (5 bottles of wine will fit into a Buell Triple Tail Backpack). The Uly was, as ever, a great ride...most of the time. Nearly every time I shut down, whether it was just a few minutes for fuel or over night, it would run like crap for several minutes after restart. The most egregious examples were after a quick pull over to don raingear near Franconia NH and another at a NY rest stop the next day. After restarting and taking off when I rolled back on the throttle nothing happened for about 1 second and then the motor suddenly came alive. "Fortunately" she seems to be way down on power in the lower revs (It won't even do a wheelie in 1st gear when chopping the throttle and yanking it back on, very un-Uly like) especially during the rain stop scenario. In addition, after the NY rest stop glitch the check engine light came on and stayed on until the next shut down / restart. It's the only time the check engine light has ever illuminated outside of the normal start-up sequence. Running at high boil, 4500+ rpm she feels pretty good, below that there is some surging and hiccupping going on. Passing multiple vehicles on back roads was no problem at all. I've got a comfort kit on the way, after I get it installed I guess I'll be loading her on the trailer for a two hour drive to Frederick..... (Message edited by rwven on August 17, 2009) |
