check out the other thread that I started about a S2 shock on a X1. From what I understand there are different shocks for different years. Not different shocks for different models. If your's is an 02 then it should have the 14.7 shock on it already. If it doesn't then all you should have to do is swap out the mounting bracket. I just picked a new one up off of ebay for $35. Please anyone feel free to correct me if I am wrong. |

We need to work on your grammar. I don't know where your sentences end. But, it may or may not fit. It's kind of like that shape game you play as a kid with these shocks. It's not hard. Is the one you took off or still have on 14.7"?? If so, I think you can figure it out from there. If it's not 14.7" on your bike, then well, no, not without a mount it won't. This isn't rocket science...Just sayin', there's a bunch of threads going on here about shocks lately. |

It's not, LOL...but it makes for a tough read sometime. Um, they only made one type of 14.7" shock duder. Seriously, you don't know that all shocks are the same on all tubers (with respect to the length difference for the updated most recent recall shock)? Your 02 should have the 14.7 on it. If the replacement is a 14.7 then you are good. If for some reason they are different lengths you have to get the bracket. The bracket is $70 from the dealer. They are on ebay too though for cheaper. |

yeah b, why would being able to understand what someone is trying to tell us be important? spelling, syntax, and grammar are totally unnecessary because we can all read each others' minds, right? we just have this written forum for record keeping, right? |

See, this is the stuff that drives me nuts. What does jumping on this thread to leave sarcastic remarks accomplish? If you don't want to help the guy out then just don't click on it. There are variables to everybody's situation as they come on this site. Maybe someone is new and doesn't know how to search. Maybe they are in a hurry because they are about to miss out on a part if they don't get an answer quick. Maybe they just missed the other threads while they were scrolling through. Who knows? What I find harder to understand is what does it accomplish to come on and be a jerk to someone with a simple question? There are so many different levels of experience on this board that it is hard to know exactly what the people do know. Not that long ago I honestly didn't know that all tuber shocks were the same (between models). A year ago, before I bought my bike I didn't know that there was even a front isolater, or what it was. I came on here, asked questions and figured a lot of stuff out. I honestly just don't get it. There are many, many times I would love to type stuff on here because people piss me off. I obviously have done it before. I try not to though and in some cases really don't see how it is warranted to start jabbing at people. Just my opinion but save that crap for the backfire/quick board. People come in here because they want to learn and get help. |

Get some new lock nuts for the shock. P/N 7701Y. You'll need 2. They recommend tossing your old ones out. They're metric nylock M12-1.75 if you get them at Ace or anywhere else. One use I suppose. You'll need a 10mm Allen wrench for the removal. (Message edited by 5liter on August 14, 2009) |

It's not my fault he didn't see the answer in the 2nd post. Yep, and there was NO sarcasm in the third post? Like I said, I don't want to get into a pissing match. I just wish that people would come to these sections to HELP. I figure if there is no help in a reply here then it shouldn't be posted. |

Hey all...I just bought a 2000 Buell X1 with a blown rear shock and researched the whole shock length thing. In the end, I bought and installed a 14.7" shock, replacing my 16.5" stocker. The only thing I changed was the front bracket (which I bought with the shock) and two bolts, 1/2 inch longer with locking nuts because the new bracket wasn't treaded like the 16.5' bracket. The install was easy and the bike rides like it should now; lots of smiles!! |
