Did anyone upgrade their 06' ULY oil pump with the "supposed" more powerful 07' oil pump. I don't ever remember reading that anyone had done this upgrade. I do remember seeing a photo of the new oil gear rotor compared to the 06's. Quite a difference as I recall and it was shown in that 07' Harley Davidson University thing that used to come out to show all the per model changes. |

Correct me if I'm wrong but i think it was the 08 when the oil pump was changed. |

The oil pump got a minor update for 2007. The entire oiling system changed in 2008. Here's the pic from the 2007 model year update showing the change: EG- if you ever want to find it again, it's under the "new owner info" link at the top of the BB&D forum, under the model year changes thread. |

I remember this change. Anyone know what the rationale was? With their "higher pair" (that's kinematician talk for ball/roller) bearings I know that the H-D/Buell engines run rather low oil pressure. So, like they say, it was for greater flow rate...more piston cooling perhaps? I don't recall any lubrication-related failure on the '06...certainly not either of mine. --Doc |

Doc- I read this to say that the supply side of the pump maintains the same capacity as the earlier pump (larger diameter but thinner gerotor). The scavenging capacity has been increased via a larger diameter and thicker gerotor. My guess is this could help with oil consumption by doing a better job of keeping the crankcase evacuated. You might even pick up a little power at high RPM. |

Seems that the cost for this was about 250 bucks. Anybody know? |

I don't have a 07 parts book, and reverse engineering the part number didn't work either. I will figure it out somehow and get back to you. |

Part number for 07 oil pump assembly is 26357-02B. Retail price is $188.00. |

Dirt, Thanks. That's $170 + tax = $187 with the 10% discount the dealer gives. That's not too bad but I wish I knew whether it would be money well spent. As the Doctor wrote that we've really not heard of any engine lubrication failures then it is probably nice but not necessary. BUT apparently Buell engineers saw something, maybe what Hugh touched on or maybe hot spots showing up in thermal imaging tests, and felt it was necessary for the ultra-longevity of the engine.
