So my bike blew the ignition fuse a few times and I made a post about it. I started diagnosing and I thought about what I had changed recently. I tried filling the right clip on with BB's to reduce vibes. Apparently there are 2 holes in the clip ons for the controls (I guess this allows swapping left to right). Apparently the BBs worked their way through the 2nd open hole and about a dozen of them got into the switch housing. The kill switch has open solder points inside the switch. Apparently the BBs were shorting out the switch and popping the fuse! Moral of the story: If you put BBs in the clip ons, BAG THEM! ac (Message edited by avc8130 on August 13, 2009) |

That's why I used heavy(5 mil I think) ziplocks for the shot in my bars. I seem to recall reading about the same thing happening to someone else. Glad for you, the lesson only cost a couple of fuses. Z |

Yeah, I burned 2 fuses and had to have my fiance come save me off the side of the highway with my truck/trailer. The 1st spot it died was pretty scary. I was in one of the uglier parts of Newark, NJ. Luckily I called in some reinforcements to guard me while I swapped the fuse in the dark and the 2nd fuse got me safely out of Newark. Heavy plastic bag is definitely a good idea! ac |

LOL. Amazing how things can go wrong. I might be tempted stir the BB's in with RTV and pack that whole mess into the bars if I was going to go down that road... It would come out if you wanted (acetone will disolve it) but stay otherwise. |

No, you want the shot loose(but in a bag) so it works like a dead-blow hammer to absorb shock/vibrations. If you RTV them into a lump you won't get as good damping and insertion could be tough. Z |

Yeah, I am not sure what I will do now. I think I am going to try some bar ends. That will require drilling new holes for the controls since my grips overhand 1/2" past the clip ons. If I do the BB's again...I will definitely BAG THEM! ac |

Standard metric bar weights/ends. Get a longer bolt and about 1/2" worth of flat washers. Take off the original bolt, put the washers between the actual weight/end and the rubber. Tighten as you normally would. I had a problem with mine sticking on the throttle side until I did this. |

After Zac's post a long time ago when we both first rolled out with 2008's I took his suggestion but used 1/2" thinwall conduit filled with bird shot and wrapped with electrical tape to be a little snugger. Easy in and out and works great. Total cost $00.0. I had every thing on hand. Thanks for the idea Zac. Bob |

So, forgive my possible dumb question, but how do you remove the factory plastic barends? Pump pliers and a twist? |

I just pulled them out with pliers. They will mar if you aren't careful. One of them fell out while riding and all of my BBs spilled out. D_adams, Do you have any pics? ac |

Not at the moment, but I'll see what I can come up with. |

Good point Zac... makes sense. The conduit idea sounds great. I have double and triple ziplock bagged tools in my tail bag (on both the dirtbike and the streetbike), and in short order the bags get shredded regardless. The conduit pieces sound like just the trick. |

Heck just put some RTV in the holes in the bars. The pin in the switch cluster will still work and the other hole will be filled. If you want to use a bag go ahead or, I just added two Throttlemeister bars ends, problem solved (except for the hole in my wallet ;+}) Neil S. |

Anyone have a recommendation for an off the shelf bar end weight product that bolts up easily to the 1125R? Maybe something with a throttle friction system like the Kaoko Throttle Control/bar end shown for the for Buell ULYSSES and XBs. (www.kaokousa.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Stor e_Code=KU&Category_Code=KAOKO_BUELL) I'm 62 and my nerve endings have become somewhat less tolerant of vibration. |

I will be putting Suzuki bar ends on the bike. No throttle lock, but really cheap. I will have to re-drill the control locating holes to move everything over so the grips don't overhang the end of the clip ons any more. ac |

Throttlemeister. Same size for the 12r fits the stock 1125r bars. I think I'm on my 5th or 6th set of Throttlmeisters. Later Neil S. |
