Rlgiv Could never get a cost on a 2002 998 6K service until complete. From the last price quoted and the day I picked it up there was a $200.00 increase. was lied to about how it was serviced, on when it would be ready and the cure for an oil leak I brought to their attention as I just noticed but not blaming them. It took four weeks for them to complete an eight hour service. When it was completed I told them when I dropped the bike off if it was not finished by a certain date I would have to pick it up the following weekend. They finished the bike the day before I as leaving and knowing I could not get to their shop in yorktown from va beach before they closed they suggested that I pay by credit card and they would leave the bike outside unattended after they closed and went home, placing the key somewhere where I could find it. Basically I told him he was f'ed. pointing out an oil leak from the rear cylinder I had Dave (the owner) try to tell me the oil leak was coming from a pinhole leak in the oil cooler at the bottom of the fairing behind the front wheel and made a deliberet effort to point out he pinhole in the oil cooler. I agreed that it was leaking then pointed out that I found it hard to believe that that oil leak would get pass the front cylinder and end up on the rear cylinder without leaving any trails. So Dave then pointed to a side cover with gasket and states that it is a non repairable leak and trying to fix it would be wasting my money. I shook my head asked him to clean the oil so i can track the leak and left thinking that I doubt Ducati would spend how many millions developing this engine and design in an oil leak that can not be fixed. I was also told that bike had to be taken off the rack for scheduled saturday appointments and all saturday work was by appointment and they held priority.( I dropped my bike of on saturday without an appointment, the only day I can get to thier shop when they are open). then when asking the counter person when I picked my bike up if they worked my bike peice meal and he said once they started they worked non stop til it was finished. I know that was a lie because I saw it at approx. 80% completed and it still took another week to finish. about the non repairable oil leak, it is cause by the side plate retaining bolt that are a little too long and bottom out in the cylinder and when the gasket starts to shrink the sealing force is reduced and the gasket starts to leak. I had it fixed by Joey at Richmond Superbike. That is the only place anywhere near local to take your Ducati for service. well worth the road trip. Redline story 2 I was taking a fellow hooligan's Buell up to redline for a state inspection( by his request, he's playing in the sandbox) and Dave their only inspector was out of town so they sent me down to cliffs. I was their for a short while when one of redline's shop rats rolls up on an 1198. when it came time for my inspection he wanted to cut in line and jump in the inspection at the same time claiming some BS like they do it all the time. well that did not happen. so when the inspector asked what type bike I was riding an 08 xb9sx city cross I told him it was a Buell and the kid started being a dick about how Harley owned them and it was a Harley. Needless to say I schooled him but another reason to stay out of redline. I would call Brian at D and D Cycle Triumph of Norfolk they have a dyno and can do they work they got my 82 CB900F pulling over 80 at the wheel with just a 4 into 1 and a K&N air box filter. If you don't know that is good power for that year. |

Mike, i know how disappointed you are with Redline and have heard the above from you before. you have all the right to 'get on a soap box' about them. i wasn't trying to piss you off, but you can take it how ever you want. |

Mike, You didn't tell me about the shenanigans that ensued when you took my bike to get it inspected. Sorry it was such a pain in the arse. I owe you a beer or two. BTW, did you ever get the Camaro started? |

Phil The battery was dead I put the tender on it and Lani says the green light is on, so the battery should be good. I'm going over tonight before Hoss's to get it cranked up. After I get it warmed up I'll shut it down and disconnect the battery to stop it from draining. Just 2 beers WTF????? |

S1wmike....... That sucks. I dropped mine off this am expecting to be able to ride it home by the afternoon. Was told they wouldn't be able to start on it until LATE in the day or even tomorrow. I have spent all day irritated. Came home a few minutes ago and read your post. That definately didn't help me. I called them right after reading your post and while I was on the phone could actually hear my beast in the background reverberating off their walls. That made me happy. This morning when I brought her in she wasn't even firing. I was worried about all kinds of stuff. Right now it looks like I overcorrected on my adjustment to my PC3 and fouled my brand new plugs because I was to rich. I was so worried I burned a valve. Last week I just put those plugs in and the ones I took out where crusty. Lesson learned. Let somebody else adjust my air/fuel mixture. |

Having lived next to Redline since they moved here...they have a snooty attitude and quite honestly, cater to the (good old boys) Ducati crowd, money talks in that shop, otherwise get in line. I go there for only what I can get over the counter and nothing else. |

Goody.......It's funny you say that because I feel pretty certain that I told them I was going to be waiting in the shop but when I got there this morning there was an older dude in there who they obviously all knew and he was even helping them work on his bike it seemed. I felt like I had been cut in front of in line. |

Phil I was looking for my Dead Milkmen Greatest Hits CD so I could Crank Bitchin' Camaro at your house today but just couldn't seem to find it. With a fully charged battery all it took was several stabs at the go pedal and about the third time trying she cranked right up, oil pressure was instant and I ran it for about 10-15 minutes to get it fully warmed up. Nice job having the clutch safety switch wired in. a SMART touch. I disconnected the battery negative cable so the battery will not drain down again. Ask Lani not to post that video of me on youtube. Myron says he was going to look you up when he got there, has he found you yet? (Message edited by S1wmike on August 12, 2009) (Message edited by S1wmike on August 13, 2009) |

Tank, Rlgiv...I only go to Redline for what I know they can handle with no issues. Tire changes and the occasional over the counter generic part. They do have a "club membership" attitude there but what work I have had done, including inspections, has been fine. That being said I don't own a Ducati and if I did I would be hesitant to take it to them. They have a high turn around on the hired help there. Oh my previous statement...we ALL have been foolish on our iron steeds, soooo "as a uniter, not a divider" I will admit I have been foolish myself. Peace !! |

Here is a cut and paste from the Racing board...if interested I suppose you need to go find Richie in the pits. Hey guys, If there is anyone camping at VIR this weekend....RMR would love to put an inflatable Gecko at your campsite. We are not allowed to put it up in the paddock so it would be a huge favor to the GEICO team. Let us know and I will get you pit passes. Thanks Richie |

Sorry i havent left many messages, its just i dont have anything to say so i just save it till i do have things to pass. Other than what mike said before i left, i am ponderin a new 1125r, but i think it will have to wait until i see where i stand with my duty station. BTW, anyone been doing the Poes Pub run? Oh also, D&D Triumph, is awesome shop to go to and get work done, the guys there are very knowledgeable and very friendly and they wont tell you any BS, my dad own a triumph and bought it from there, i have even bought parts from them, and got my buell inspected by them. They didnt even charge me for the inspection becuase i wouldnt pass, he just told me to fix and bring back, so from now on when i have to get my bikes inspected thats where im going! Hello all. Sorry to interrupt. Not exactly sure where to post a new topic about technical advice. My name is Phil. I live in Norfolk and own a 2000 S3T. Bike currently has a K&N forcewinder. Have kept the exhaust stock up until now. Just ordered a D&D exhaust and ECM from Al at American Sportbike. I have not had a lot of luck with service at local Harley dealer. Al suggested that I chime in on this local site to try to find a reliable garage or person with the appropriate Diagnostic SW Package who could adjust Throttle Position Sensor after ECM is installed. Appreciate any advice. By the way, this is my third HD product. Old sportster and beastly 2001 M2 Cyclone L. Agree with comments in other posts about D&D Triumph. Brian and Jerry are great. Just sold a 1999 Triumph Legend to high school friend. Currently down to 2 bikes both sport tourers, S3T and Honda VFR. Thanks in advance. |
