So, there we were at the big IBA Fall archery shoot in Eldora Iowa on Sunday. 4 friends and myself rode over in the Double Lung Expedition. We had just finished the first 1/2 of the range when all hell broke loose! Hail, most of it golf ball size but up to tennis ball size came down. The hail lasted for about 15 minutes! Never seen hail like that before. Every vehicle there was totaled, including mine. We were lucky, we were at the shelter house when it hit. Many shooters were out in the woods shooting the course. Many suffered broken bones, arms and fingers. A few got concussions. I was shooting "lights out" too! Had a 191 on the first 20 targets (out of 200) My truck got pounded but at least I had a windshield left, kind of. We were able to drive, at 35 mph the 40 miles back to Waterloo without the windshield falling into my lap. Here's some pics

It's a rare thing, but sometimes it's just nice to not be on the bike. |

I had already shot a 10 on the cowardly lion. Ins Co is coming to look at it on Friday. 10 years old and 213,000 miles, I won't get squat. |

Out of the many, many vehicles I have owned my Expedition is easily in the top 5 as a favorite. Been an awesome truck. I have put 141,00 miles on it since I bought it in late 03. At this time I am in no position to buy something else. Hoping i can get a fair shake from the ins co. I just sold a new bow to the guy that runs one of the biggest junk yards in the area. I have him looking into what a couple headlights, windshield and a black hood will run me. I can put all that stuff on myself with a little help from a friend or two. The sides didn't get it too bad and you can't see the roof unless you are on a ladder. I think I can make it look ok. Heck, it would cost me another 500.00 to put all the logos on a different truck. |

Quote: 10 years old and 213,000 miles, I won't get squat. - I got my S-10 totaled when a dude decided he wanted my space. 10 years old,170k. Got top book($5,700) plus $200! Their adjuster was hostile, but seen that it was well cared for.Took 7 weeks to get them to come look at it and settle! Screwed me on the buy back($1,200)...but it's like new again for $600.00 in EBay and local Chevy shop parts. The remainder of the money went to pay off the 01 Sonoma I bought in the mean time to have transportation. In the end,it cost me 2 grand, but I now have two nice trucks, insured for less than half the premiums of one truck.
{- Everything on the S-10 front end is new, cept the hood and the left headlight

Dave, replace the windshield, and paint the rest of the body with rhinoliner. You'll have a kickass MadMax post-apocalyptic juggernaut to strike fear in the mild mannered midwesterners you walk amongst. A gun turret wouldn't hurt either. |

I know someone that used one of those on his truck. It worked... sort of. Some of the dings it took out quite well and after a cleaning you couldn't tell where they were. Some of the deeper ones still had an indent. Saved him $100 from the first quote he got from the dent repair place. Your results may vary... lol |

hey Dave, remember that time I drove up from Arkansas to buy my Lightning Long from you? Well, now I'd say it's tome to return the favor...Get your insurance check from the government, bring that Ferd to Arkansas and Cash for clunker the old girl and get you a new Honda vehicle. |

We had a similar hail storm here way back in '87 and when I saw my little white Honda Civic I was sick. As I stood in front of it wondering what I would do (college kid with no money and mom didn't have much either) I looked over the roof and saw a brand new Olds 88 with 30-day tags in the space behind. My little golf ball didn't look so bad, and I think the dents made it run faster. As far as the dents, some around here had good luck with dry ice pulling them out. The 'pops a dent' thing works best for pressure dents, Daves dent are more like ball peen hammer dents. As I recall they heated the dents then dropped the dry ice on them to shrink the heated metal. |

Yeah, me, in a Honda. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah! No offense Joe, but hell would freeze over before i bought a Honda. Don't like them. They build NOTHING that suits me. Don't hate me for being a Ford man. If I had the money for a different truck it would be a Ford, maybe a Dodge(I have one of them too) but not a GM or any import. |

Cash for clunkers would be great, IF I had the money to pay the payments on the other 35,000.00 or so. |

Dave... The windshield should be covered at no expense to you on your insurance. They're probably going to try to total the car unless you just ask for a windshield replacement. A salvage hood shouldn't be too hard to find for a decent price. Same with the headlights and grill. Good luck!!! |

Nice dimples for sure. But you are mistaken. The damage is not from hail. That damage is from a heard of activist whitetail deer who took to dancing on your Ford. They're finally fighting back. Watch your step Dave. They are a cunning herd. |
