Yep, grandson has a size 12 heavy foot. 3 days in NC mountains & no problems-I let him ride my FJR thru the Dragon one of the 3 times just so he could see how much better the Buell is in the mountains. 1k miles in 3 days & most of it in twisties-great stuff. Going thru Hotlanta at 5pm sucks & he pressed so hard that the shifter is bent & it seems that the shifter drum is slightly off. It does shift thru all 5 gears & neutral is there but no lite in neutral but shifting from 1st to 2nd & N lite blinks. It shifts harder & U can get a false N from time to time. Hopefully I can get to problem w/only removing the clutch & not having to pull complete tranny. O K next questionWhat size are the screw holes in the primary engine sprokett? I'm down to pulling the sprokett and darned if I can find the right screw size. It looks like a 12-28 but that's not a very standard size. Unlike the pix in the FSM, my sprokett has 8 holes in it instead of 4. Later, De (Message edited by tyronewildman on August 10, 2009) |

That is right. And if the shifter drum needs to come out it isn't very hard to pull the transmission. |

Check you clutch adjustment first. AmsOil in primary makes shifting much easier. |

Do a proper clutch plate adjustment at the clutch end not just the cable length. While there check for proper transmission fluid level. Both of these out of adjustment can make for VERY hard shifting. |

Sorry to repete this but it's the only way I could get it to the top of the list again Later, De O K next questionWhat size are the screw holes in the primary engine sprokett? You don't remove those screws. Just the engine sprocket nut. counter-clockwise (someone confirm that, it's early for my brain). And you will need a big-ass cheater bar with the right socket. |

Essmjay, How right you are. The engine sprokett is bolted to the alternator magnet assy, from the backside & the whole assy slides off the crank. What thru me was that the FSM says that you might have to use a puller to remove the engine sprokett and then I was looking for screw holes for the puller. The 8 holes in the engine sprokett are tapped from the backside and don't need to be tapped all the way thru. I went thru all this on my '84 Sportster when it was 2 years old. Just don't understand whi I didn't remember this. Later, De |

Hey De, glad to see you've still got the S3T. Hope this turns out to be an easy fix. |
