>>So our club went for a wee ride today, just a loop up 16 and back down 1. It was to celebrate a members birthday and we had a reasonable turnout with quite a few partners coming along on their own bikes.

This necessitated a reasonably slow pace as a couple of them don't have a lot of experience.

In addition we also had a gent on some sort of off-road type contraption.

You know how there's always one in each group? Wheelies - burnouts-the whole nine yards. He gave them all a go...

You've just got to let the young folk get it out of their system I guess.<<

Good job Dave. Sometimes you have to remind the old farts how to have fun.

I know what you mean, on my ice box door is a magnet that says

"You are only young once ......
but you can be immature indefinitely"

It's good natured too btw - I said to the bloke who posted it 'I guarantee I'll do the best wheelie today' - before we set out.
They were all on cruisers.

I ride the only Buell in my local HOG Chapter. Even at 44 I am one of the younger members. Couple that with a full face helmet and D&D pipe, and I just get a lot of friendly/and or disgusted
head shakes. I honestly believe many of the Road King Geezers secretly envy me on my "fire breathing death-bike" LoL. The chests are all pumped out as they ogle over the newest chrome valve stem caps and Screamin Eagle floorboard polish....then I hit the starter on the '25,and the conversations STOP,with some knowing old grins as well as some frowning head shakes. It is truly priceless.

"then I hit the starter on the '25,and the conversations STOP" The D&D on my 1125 does the same thing. Sounds like pure hell erupting out of the pipe. I know how you feel.

Good job keeping it immature! Someone's gotta do it.

On a trip to the dealer last year one of the salesman started a '25 with a D&D inside the showroom floor.

It was great seeing all the frowning head shakes and instantly installed ear/hand cups.

It was hilarious!

Oldog,

you know you are old when you call your refrigerator an "ice box", and you need one of those magnet do-da's to remind you that you are not old!.....duh.....I forgot, had to go look at the 'fridge!

If there is anything like being very mature and still enjoying a sportbike then I just might fit that category. I ride aggressive but very sensible, safe and within my limits. There is nothing like a quiet Sunday ride (blast) up one of my favorite canyons with a younger companion, namely my son. I have a small printout on my speedometer that says "THINK SMART" in red letters and I live by that. I cannot envision Mario Andretti in his Vette "cruising" around the Pennsylvania countryside. Different then most, yes, but I love it. Bob

Twig emailed this to me today
Samuel Ullman

YOUTH

Youth is not a time of life; it is a state of mind; it is not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips and supple knees; it is a matter of the will, a quality of the imagination, a vigor of the emotions; it is the freshness of the deep springs of life.

Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity of the appetite, for adventure over the love of ease. This often exists in a man of sixty more than a body of twenty. Nobody grows old merely by a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals.

Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul. Worry, fear, self-distrust bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust.

Whether sixty or sixteen, there is in every human being's heart the lure of wonder, the unfailing child-like appetite of what's next, and the joy of the game of living. In the center of your heart and my heart there is a wireless station; so long as it receives messages of beauty, hope, cheer, courage and power from men and from the Infinite, so long are you young.

When the aerials are down, and your spirit is covered with snows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism, then you are grown old, even at twenty, but as long as your aerials are up, to catch the waves of optimism, there is hope you may die young at eighty.

I thought it seemed appropriate for this thread:

Keep the Uly, and get a 220 pound 40 HP bike dedicated purely for dirt, and *really* have fun. Heck, you could rig something up to tow the dirt bike with the Uly...

I used to transport my Weslake speedway bike backwards on my Sportster's side hack. It can be done!

I just got back from a weekend of watching 20 girls wrestle in pudding, supermo riding, off road hooliganism on the Bueller and way too much booze (after we were done riding of course)

I don't wanna grow up
I'm that dirty Bueller kid,
There's a million mud bogs
For my my CityX
That I can play in.
From my bike to trains to pudding games
Im the biggest mud bug there is (Gee Whiz)
I don't wanna grow up
Because maybe if I did
I couldn't be a dirty Bueller kid
