put them in the freezer for a few hours. Seriously, I had mine in the freezer overnight before I put them in. (Message edited by bhillberg on August 06, 2009) |

No you just got to get them in! the stock evo ones are hard to get in and make your fingers hurt, they are a real tight fit! If i were you i would get the screaming eagle ones they are 3 times smaller. I just installed mine 2 hours ago. (Message edited by preybird1 on August 06, 2009) |

They are frustrating sometimes. Freezing them sometimes helps. I think I lubed mine with dish soap last time as I was getting nowhere. Don't know if that's a totally good idea. I also ran a bit of fine sandpaper around the cavity to make sure it was totally clear. (Plugged port with rag and wiped with damp cloth after.) |

Silly question but have you made sure that all of the old ones are out of the opening? |

Dishwashing liquid has salt in it. Not good to use in any way. |

I used the screaming eagle ones, twice. Both times I put them in the freezer and they popped right in. I don't know if it really helped or not, just went on the advice of a buddy and didn't test it without freezing them. |

If you use GASKET,exhaust port PN 17048-98 you problems will be over !!! Those HD -83B gaskets are "CRAP" !!! |

Dental pick to remove the old ones (and any debris left behind). +1,000 on the S/E gaskets. |

Freezer, and lots of assembly lube - they'll pop right in without too much hassle. And the lube will smell like fire and death when you start her up |

Hey guys thanks for the info. I was able to get them in with the help of a 2 inch trailer hitch ball. It just pressed them right in after 15 minutes of trying to push it in with my thumbs and worrying about tearing up the gasket. I wish i would have tried te freezing method. |

When I tried to install the the -83B ones I was on my way to the dealer 15 minutes later to get the SE ones. No freezing necessary just popped right in. |

Another minus is the -83B's close up your exhaust port !!! |

+1 on the exhaust port blockage with the stock. I noticed this when i pulled the front one out, The SE ones are free flowing with 0 obstruction! Also the SE one's are more flexible allowing you to manipulate them more without damage! |

S.E. ones are fine with the stock header but a definite no-go with the race headers. The key with the stock H-D/Buell gaskets is not to over torque them. The S.E. ones have one down fall...they will blow out a lot sooner. |

Rick_a: With the PROPER TORQUE they will last !!! What kills these -98 gaskets is improper torque and improper exhaust system assembly ... You check your exhaust gaskets at "NIGHT" !!! |
