Can someone please confirm with me that the dim-whit at the HD dealer today gave me the right Oil filter? She didn't seem to know anything else about anything I asked her (I don't even know if she knows what a "Buell" is - long story), but when I asked for an oil filter, she seemed to know exactly which one I needed... I'm sure the XB's are all the same, and it looks the same as my current one, but I just want to make sure she didn't give me one for a 1125. Is the correct part number 63806-00Y? While I'm at it, what's the part number for the '08 Uly XT parts book, so that I don't have to rely on gum chewing douches in the future... | ||

Don't know...I always use a 1379 NAPA filter.Used a 1515 NAPA on the X1 | ||

I was having a hard time getting the Buell filters locally (kept trying to sell me big twin filters in chrome). Finally found out that Mobil 1 oil filter (M103 IIRC) is a direct replacement for Buell and a Honda or two. Reasonable price, and available in stock at local Advance Auto store. | ||

I was wrong.Napa 1394.I think the 1379 was what I used in Teresa's Vstrom?I know the 1394 fits my 140 Suzuki outboard too. | ||

I would verify some of the filters on that list. I checked the specifications of some filters that I considered using from that list. I found that the bypass valve pressure setting is higher on a number of the listed filters. The Buell bypass should be 8-11 psi, many were greater than 14 psi. This is not a big deal on high pressure car systems but may be an issue on the low pressure Buell system. Just be careful, as an example, the above listed Purolator is L14476. This car filter has a relief valve pressure of 14-18 psi. Much higher than the correct WIX filter. The Purolator motorcycle filter # ML16822 relief is 12-15 still higher. I have always used a WIX filters because of their high quality and they publish specifications on all of their filters. I use a WIX Buell listed # 51394. It is the same as the NAPA 1394. I spoke with the WIX engineer and found that the WIX 51396 is identical but 0.5" longer. I will use it next time just to get a little extra oil and filter media area. The bottom line is, I will not use a filter from any manufacturer that does not provide specific functional data. Saving a couple $ on a filter is not worth it to me. | ||

Glad I am not the only one that uses only the Buell OEM filter, I just didn't trust the aftermarket ones. Now I got facts | ||

FWIW, I try and use the Buell OEM filter, unless I get lazy and pick up a K&N or HiFlo from Cycle Gear when I'm there. Hopefully those last 2 are good enough compared to the OEM filter. If not, please hit me with input/opinions. | ||

here we go with the oil filter thread again  . Personally, I use the STP S4967. I get it at autozone for $3. |
