Nxtr: Just a note on your "out of fuel" situation.

In all cases if you can get the bike to run, it WILL be rough until the system resets itself. The length of time/miles that it takes to do that is dependent solely upon the condition of the O2 Sensor. An older or fouled sensor will make the process much longer. Easier Method is using a Scanalyzer to reset the AFV. Easiest Method is not running out of gas in the first place. ;-)

As an aside, we recommend replacing O2 Sensors at least every 7500 miles--its degradation over time is a significant cause of loss of performance. (AND the sensor can be damaged by exposure to silicon sealant fumes.)

Sparky: Congratulations on your 80K!!!!

Latest cycle world had an add for "slay the dragon II".

Judging by last years event, I am not sure who slayed whom :(

Thanks guys. The owner had the 10K full service done at a dealer. In addition, he had the primary seal replaced by the dealer. The bike looks cosmetically well taken care of. I just hope the engine is as in good shape as the body. Where would I purchase a compression tool that would fit the S3?

I just got this e-mail from Confederate Motor Company. Just thought I'd share it with you all in case you had approximately 55 grand to play with.

Quote:

Dear James,

Confederate Motor Company is positioned to make a very limited production of our new G2 Hellcatä. In truth we are creating commissioned, exotic, works of functional art.

For 2003, we are hand building a precious few G2 Hellcats. Production has begun and we are currently backordered into June 2003, making a maximum of only 2 motorcycles per week. MSRP for these bespoke motorcycles is $51,760, and there is only one place they can be ordered from, and that is here at our new factory showroom in the heart of downtown New Orleans. Our 2003 Hellcats are quietly selling out, and you can commission yours with a 20% deposit, and reserve your place in history.

If you would like to commission your Hellcatä, please email or call me at 504.561.9122 so that I can arrange your preferences onto the 2003 build schedule. Please feel free to inquire about our Fly and Ride program, and spend a weekend in New Orleans for a tour and test ride.

I have a friend living in Las Vegas who was looking at new tube frame Buells at LVHD/Buell. He tells me they a giving a Blast to anyone who buys one of the left over tubers. A buy one get one free deal. He thought this was a national promotion. Has anyone heard of this, or is this just something his local dealer is doing? He tells me that prices are back up to list for this deal. But before hand they were offering S-3s for around $7000.00.

I posted to the Bodywork vault but didn't get much response so thought I'd try here...

I recently purchased a Banke license relocator for my '98 Cyclone. See the pics AZ_M2 sent in July 2002. Nice parts, but no directions. I pulled the tailsection apart and discovered that the stock license plate/taillight holder is glued to the underside of the tailsection. I'm looking for tips on how to remove the stock piece without destroying everything. Right now it's looking like my options are chisels and hacksaw blades, but maybe someone has a better idea?

Also, AZ_M2 indicated that his stock piece was bolted in on his 2001. ASB says they didn't think Buell glued them in except for on some early S2's. Can someone confirm that the license/taillight holder on '98 Cyclones is glued to the tailsection and I don't have something weird going on with mine?

Thanks! EVOMX

Dave, I know what you mean. Here's my story.

At 9191 miles, I found my salvation in the form of a Saddlemen gel seat with Spandura cover. It was on a 2-day PMC Greenhorn Poker Run that I casually mentioned how uncomfortable the stock seat was to one of the club guys. He recommended that I contact Saddlemen to custom install this wonderful "gel insert" and stretchy cover into the seat and that this mod has worked wonders for others. Shoot, they were only 10 miles away too, so I brought the seat to them and they made me a custom 3 inch wider seat. The gel is great all by itself, but for someone with a skinny butt, the Spandura cover eliminates pressure points thus making it truly into an all-day bike. Ever since then the bike has been a joy to ride even on long cross country trips (to Milwaukee and back!). No more 30 minute max rides for me.;)

Note: Saddlemen was later contracted to build Buell seats for the 99 & later bikes. I'm just wondering if my experience with them had anything to do with that?

Regards,
Sparky

What's going on? I have a 99 M2 with thunder storm heads, race ignetion, ect. It has 20,000 miles. The bike runs great, I mean fantastic for 10 or 12 tanks of gas, and then on a long day ride it leaves me stranded. It has done this twice now. The first time the electric vest harness shorted out and fried the battery,(I thought). New battery, no problems until yesterday. Long ride in the Rain, yes it does rain in Arizona, It happened again. Runs VERY rough above 30 MPH. It feels like electrical, not gas related. Where do I start looking?

evomx,

The piece you speak of, do not remove.

The BANKE part is designed to replace the upper fender. The black plastic part that is.

The BANKE part will get sandwiched between the light assembly and the tail you speak of. To use the BANKE part, you lose the upper fender. The plate, plate holder(BANKE) and bodywork will now be your upper fender.

Cliff, you might be the victim of a randomly sticking gas tank vent valve. To prove or disprove this, the next time it starts to run rough, open the gas cap to let air in. If it runs OK immediately, then you've found the problem.

My 98 S3 cuts out after about 10 miles of rain riding due to the stupid vent valve malfunctioning. YMMV.

Anyone going to Florida for Bike Week, or any other reason... two bits of advice:

1. DO NOT exceed the speed limit. Floridas finest are all over the highway writing tickets as fast as they can.

2. Pick up a new XB from Gainesville Buell. $8999 plus tax out the door.

what happened to the sun? Most of you may think it is always warm here in Arizona. It may not be as cold as it is up north, but at 55 degrees, I loaded up the cold weather gear and set out to add miles to my new (third) top end. With 143,000 miles on the clock, the '95 S2 doesn't get much rest, rain or shine. The ride was great, managed to make do 135 miles round trip, despite the rain. I need to check into that new seat though. :o( Top end feeling strong. Can't wait until it's completely broke in.

Help!!!!!!

Was on a road trip about 150 miles from home today and blew my rear rocker box casket on my 2001 S3T (big time). Found a dealer that was able to repair the casket under warrenty but, in the process the dealer hosed my bike in a big time way.

For some reason, they cut the plug from the O2 sensor and the plug that goes into the wiring harness and replaced the two plugs with a bullet connector??????

Was able to make it up to the next shop (after noticing something was very wrong with the bike) about 50 miles away (bike was surging, backfiring and plain running like crap and the engine light was going on and off) and have them look at it.

The second shop was not able to help me. Informed me that since the first shop cut the wires like they did and removed the factory plugs I would have to replace the total wiring harness.

The shop that did the casket repair basically told me to kiss off and that it was my problem.

So with that, does any one have any suggestions on how I can fix the plug on the wiring harness side with out having to replace the complete harness?

Thanks in advance!

Jim

Cut the connector off and solder the wires together.

Then demand that the offending dealership repair the damage they caused. Since you're still under warranty, you've got a little more leverage. Did you talk to the service manager?

Hootowl,

Thanks for the response!

Done that but, the bike is still running really, really bad. Engine light is a constant glow now.

The dealership is 150 miles from my home, I managed to limp my bike back home. Getting it back down there would be lots of work.

I did speak with the service manager but, he told me it was my problem, not theirs, even though they hosed the wiring.

Not sue how much leverage still being under warranty will help. The second shop wouldn't even touch it under warranty work because the factory connectors were removed.

PDXS3T,
scroll up and read about reseting after changing the O2 sensor. You need to ride the bike until it resets

Bartimus,

The O2 sensor wasn't changed the dealership just clipped the factory connectors for what ever reason and replaced them with cheap bullet connectors.

I also did ride the bike, 150 miles back home after finding out what they had done and after sodering the wires together with hopes to reset things.

Pdxs3t:

The settings for a new O2 sensor has to be set with the scananlyzer. Cruising at 2500-2800 rpm will reset the AFV but not the TPS or O2 settings. Unfortunately I've been there done that. As long as the first Dealer was a Buell Dealer, I would call Buell Customer Service and let them know the whole story. Standard practice is NOT to cut off the connectors.

Just my $0.02.

Ccryder,

Thanks for your input! :)

The first dealer was in fact a Buell dealer. And I couldn't agree with you more about the connectors being cut off.

It is beyond me why the tech did so, replacing the rock box gasket had nothing to do with the O2 sensor what so ever.

Jim,

Just my 2 cents. They probably broke the wires when putting on new gaskets and fixed it to get you on the road, knowing you'd probably wouldn't notice and/or pursue it any further.

I'd get on the horn first thing on Monday morning with Buell Customer Service. Be polite with them, clearly explain the situation and let them know you spoke with the service manager too. After that YOU should get a FEEL how THEY perceive to resolve the issue. I'd like to know the outcome, so please keep us informed.

... the dealership turned ya loose after a good rocker box repair but the bike started running like crap and you noticed they butchered your wiring...Your bike is under warranty plus the service advisor (manager?) was no assistance.

It doesn't make sense they'd cut wiring...that's just shoddy workmanship. Maybe a connector was left off or loose under the tank?

Call up the service manager again and attempt the calm and polite approach. Maybe suggest that they come get your bike because it's not running good enough to ride? If that goes no where, escalate it one more level like to the general manager and then the owner. Try to resolve at the dealership.

That being said...it's worked for me sometimes but at others, the owners had more attitude than than the service advisors.

HD/Buell Customer Service will listen to you but chances are they'll drop the "dealership's are independently owned and operated" card on you.

...that's why I hate warranty work

Dave,

It doesn't make too much sense at all. I would have to agree with you about the workmanship, very poor in my opinion.

When I got home, pulled the tail section and tank just to make sure there was nothing lose or off. No such luck, found a few other things that the dealer messed up but I can fix those.

I am hoping that BMC customer service doesn't do that.
