I'm looking for ideas on where to take the lady for something between a long weekend and a week. She took me on a cruise in feb, and we don't go away all that much so I'm trying to come up with something nice for us. She's pretty adventurous, but has a joint condition so a week of hiking in the Rockies won't do it. We've both done the Caribbean a bunch, so I'd like to do something different. I was thinking either the West Coast or London (yeah, western Europe is a possibility), but I'm open to just about anything. This will likely take place in the fall, so weather needs to be taken into consideration. Any ideas? |

London or anything in the UK will be expensive. Take a ride down Cape Cod or maybe up to NH for a weekend. Buelltober Fest is around the corner as well. Vegas? |

London or anything in the UK will be expensive. This is true - I had only been looking at airfare, which is pretty cheap - but we'd still have to eat and sleep somewhere... Too bad because Ireland would have been fun as well. Her family has a cottage in Humarock (on the shore between Boston and the Cape), so we already spend a good bit of time on the Mass coast and would like to do something a little different. Vegas... now that's something to think about... Jaime - I actually thought about Disneyland in CA since we've already both been to Disneyworld... might have to play with that idea some more as well... |

Vegas rocks. I took my gf a year ago. Hoover Dam tour, Cirque Du Sole and sight seeing will keep you busy for 3-4 days. My next trip out there is with the boys though. You'll need blinders if you go with the little lady. Its Prom Night 10 fold out there. |

I've got a similar problem with my knees, but I still like to get out and enjoy nature in whatever way I can. Most recently, I took the family with me to Colorado to see Pikes Peak, Garden of the gods, Rocky Mountain Natl. Park, etc. We just use our motel as a home base, drive a rental car (w/o the kids, it would be a bike) and spend the day hiking, picnicking, sight-seeing, whatever. I've done the same thing in the San Francisco bay area. Yosemite, Napa Valley, Lake Tahoe, etc. Santa Fe, NM was a nice surprise. Hiking in the Mountains during the day, and when the leg started acting up, tour some of the historic churches and shops in downtown Santa Fe. Very nice. Grand Canyon & Bryce Canyon in southern Utah are also something everyone should see in their lifetimes. Hiking either the rim or down into the canyon can be done in a day, and you don't have to spend all week in pain. |

The Santa Fe thing is a good idea and then do Taos as a bonus burger. Its artsy fartsy and worth the trip. |

Do you have a budget and time allowance? Why not leave HERE during our Winter and take in New Zealand or OZ in their Summer? Give the two of you an "endless Summer" New Zealand's weather and water are VERY similar to California. You could go to the Gold Coast of Australia and take in the Great Barrier Reef. |

We both would like to do NZ and OZ, but the time in the air to get there is so great than anything less than 2 weeks doesn't seem worth it. Time-wise I'd like to keep it to under a week in length, budget wise I hadn't really thought about it. I'm getting that $8,000 first time homebuyers thingy in a few weeks and I was going to put some of that towards it (but not all). I'd say a couple grand for the trip for the two of us would be reasonable. |

West Coast: Wine Country (e.g., Sonoma Valley, etc), and Redwoods territory up the coast. Coast road US1. Or up into Oregon - beautiful coast. Or take a sail cruise up into San Juan Islands up in Wash/Vancouver area. Or try closer to home (save the airfare to spend on other stuff): Quebec City, MOntreal, or a tour of Gaspe Peninsula in Quebec, or Nova Scotia; Mt. Desert Island/Acadia Nat'l Park in ME.; Or rent a cabin up in one of the incredibly numerous areas of superb natural beauty that surrounds you up in upstate NY, and splurge on location/dining/special things to do. Or fly down south to where it will still be beautiful at the beach: outer banks of NC (Okracoke Is., etc); or further down, Hilton Head (great beaches and activities) with touring to beautiful Charleston, SC, Beaufort, SC and Savannah, GA. ...or further south, do the Gulf Coast - lots of beautiful vacation areas to rent a place and kick back. |

Does she share in your Buell enthusiasm? If so there are some cool cottages that rent inexpensively in Suches area for Buelltoberfest. I took my wife last year, going to try again this year. Shouldn't be too hard, she had fun and got to see some beautiful areas, as well as met some great Buellers! |

Fly to Milwaukee, rent a Harley and ride over to Michigan's Upper Pennisula out to Copper Harbor at the tip of the Keeweenaw Pennisula. Take the Lake shore drive U.S. 28 (might be U.S. 26) it is worth the ride. Yeah I can't spell (Message edited by S1wmike on August 03, 2009) (Message edited by S1wmike on August 03, 2009) |

I just spent two weeks in and around Lake Tahoe California. I could have spent another two weeks there and never gotten bored. If you are into hiking, climbing, swimming, and even cliff diving, it would be a hard place to beat. |

Can't do long bike rides or hikes or anything of the like. Her joint condition is less pain during activity and more pain all the time, so any activity - including sitting still for too long (like on a bike) is just a no go. The stuff around here is nice - but the problem is we live here and have done all this stuff over and over again. We're both in the Adirondacks numerous times throught the year. |

Go to Hawaii. If you haven't gone yet (and I haven't). It would be beautiful and different. |

Sunset Beach, North Carolina. It's about 5 miles north of North Myrtle Beach, just across the state line. Freakin awesome place. You can rent a nice beach house for a few hundred for the week, and have all the great advantages of a private beach, etc, plus have Myrtle Beach party scene 20 minutes away. sunsetvacations.com Very worth it. I take the family down every year. |

Yeah, if sitting still for too long on a tour is too hard, I'd go south or to Hawaii for sun, surf and fun. But keep these ideas coming, guys - we all love good trip ideas! |

The all-inclusive Moon Palace in Cancun is pretty swell. Thirteen absolutely free bars, several HUGE pools, and eight totally free restaurants. The tours to Chichen-Itza and Tulum are included. Tourism is off due to the recession and H1N1 scare so you should be able to get a smoking deal. Google "Moon Palace" for details. Jacuzzis are in your hotel room. Hammock on your private balcony. Woohoo! Laurie and I didn't feel like being drunk and stuffed for a week so we opted for the 2218.5 mile Foolhardy Ride around California. That would be a great Plan B for you but unfortunately too far away. |

Just sharing what I've found thus far... I picked totally arbitrary dates of Oct 7th through 12th. Northern CA, staying 5 nights in San Francisco, flights, and a Mustang convertible rental car - $2190 for the both of us. Las Vegas, staying 5 nights in the Paris Hotel, economy car and flights - $1741 London, staying 5 nights in some old hotel and no car (not needed) and flights - $1963 |

Hey, you could buy my mobile home in the Beachcomber Resort in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. -- If you're into boating, --- the rent includes a boat slip. --- You can go upriver to the casinos in Laughlin. -- You can rent out the mobile when you're not there. I should state, PM if anybody's interested or call 310-676-4587 and leave a message (regarding the mobile home .) (Message edited by sparky on August 03, 2009) |

I just got back from three nights in Vegas. Although we had a great time, five days would be overkill. You won't be able to find a $5 blackjack table on the Strip at night if that is a factor. IMHO, downtown Vegas at Fremont St. is a much better deal. The Golden Nugget is my favorite hotel. We stayed there 3 nights for $99 ($111 with tax) which is a smoking deal! The rooms are big and clean. Make sure you reserve a room in the higher floors for a great view. $5 BJ is readily available at a number of casinos downtown. The Haufbrauhaus (next to the Hard Rock) is fantastic! It is a replica of the one in Munich and just as loud and drunk. Buxom girls wearing dirndls (sp) serve you litre beers and optionally spank you with their paddles if you are deemed nasty. The food is GREAT (if you like German stuff). 2-3 nights in Vegas would be good, 1 night at Zion, 1 night at Bryce (or maybe Grand Canyon if you like driving) would be great. |

I just got back from 3 weeks in Hawaii for work. It is gorgeous there. We were in Honolulu and the temp is upper 80 all year round. Right now it is "cheap" to go there too because the Japanese are so scared of the swine flu apparently they have stopped coming to the island and tourism is down $1 billion so far this year. Great snorkeling and sights. We found airfare for my wife for $600 roundtrip and our hotel room was $119 a night in a good hotel. If you need an recommendations let me know.
