Starting from tenth, Slick rode brilliantly for the win, with a hand to hand battle with Cardenas, exchanging the lead repeatedly in the last laps, until Cardenas crashed. Now he is now leads the championship by eight points, as Cardenas finished in the back of the pack after his crash. Josh Herrin finished second,Acquino third. Just watched that myself...I wish Cardenas had not crashed...it would have been more fun to watch Slick beat him man to man. |

Dbird29 Posted on Sunday, August 02, 2009 - 05:55 pm: Thanks for the spoiler. Come on, it's been on tv twice already! When will it be safe to talk about, November? If you haven't taken the time to watch it by now, you probably weren't that interested. If you were, then stay off the most powerful source of news in the world, the Internet. |

Even on the INTERNET sources keep things from being spoilers. Roadracing World headline: "Five Riders Battle To The Finish In Sunday's Daytona SportBike Race At Heartland Park Topeka" Hmmm, I know not to open that link if I don't want to SPOIL the TV airing of the race. "Danny does it again!!" is a little hard to unread even for someone as dense as me. |

Not only can the guy ride like the wind, he can also remove his helmet AND earplugs without removing his gloves. Now THAT'S talent. I have to carry needlenose pliers because I get my earplugs stuck so often. |

Now that was racing!! Yea to bad about the crash, That was some great fighting. Both were trying so hard that they were sliding all over the track. I knew one was going to go down. Glad it wasn't Danny. (Message edited by poppinsexz on August 02, 2009) |

Refused to race why? Protest against Buell? Hacking sat out in protest of the track being "too dangerous." Mladin did the same thing in Superbike and was being a total drama queen about the whole thing from what I heard on the telecast. This happened during Saturday's races. Not yet sure about what happened today. (Message edited by boltrider on August 02, 2009) |

I applaud them for taking a stand. Unfortunately taking a stand comes at a price, series points. Interesting that Mladin is retiring too. |

The apparent vindictive timing of his announcement is unfortunate. Mladin actually threatened violence against a fellow racer, Larry Pegram, for not towing Mladin's line wrt the track being unsafe. Pegram told Speed's Greg White on air that he'd lost all respect for Mladin. Mladin also publicly maligned the race organizers and AMA Pro Racing management stating that "I Will Never Accept The Lowering Of Safety Standards For The Sake Of A Few People Making Money." Arrogant jerk. Mladin also stated the following: quote:We race 200hp motorcycles where with constant development, the brakes, the tires, the chassis, the engines and the complete package as a whole gets faster every year.
Wasn't it just a week or so ago that Mr. Mladin was publicly characterizing the new era (DMG/2009 rules changes) AMA Superbikes as the same as what people use to "run to the mall"? His version of the truth changes depending on what his agenda happens to be at the time. It's very disappointing. He's a bitter man. I think it's pretty obvious who's character is most lacking. Good riddance. Motorcycle racing in America is far better served without that kind of representation. (Message edited by blake on August 02, 2009) |

Personally, i am SO glad that Buell has Danny/Barney and the lot representing, cause it would be VERY difficult to support a rider (even on a Buell) if he was a A-hole....see Hacking, Mladin. |

Isn't it just a hoot to (FINALLY) be able to see a Buell OVERTAKE a Suzuki on a straightaway!?! It is SUCH a great thing for Buell to have a great racer winning on a Buell. All the BoB marketing in the world can't hold a candle to race wins. |

I'm curious about this 'unsafe track' stuff. At the Iowa track BMW sat it out saying it was 'unsafe'. Technically wouldn't any track be 'unsafe if you rode too fast? If a track has tight curves or not a lot of runout areas wouldn't you just go a little slower? There is a point at which you can ask the tracks to only do so much to make the riders safe. |

I just caught a small bit about the safety. apparently there was concern over a jersey wall. I believe it was there to prevent the car from entering the water on the infield. It was removed and was not an issue with the race. The track did listen and work to eliminate the rider's concerns |

Just saw race 2. Eslick is a freaking superhero. Finished 3rd, but what a ride. He was damn near run off the track but managed to stay up and not lose a position. Lead swapped several times on the last lap. . The announcers appear to be morons "Danny's losing grip"...as he power wheelies out of a corner..."He has to pass in the straight, he can't do it in the corner"...as he passes two other riders to take the lead in a set of corners. Whatever. Amazing racing. I wish I could ride as well as the slowest guy out there. edit: I spelled straight incorrectly. I'm the moron in this story. (Message edited by hootowl on August 04, 2009) |

And it's a good thing they removed it. When Herrin tried to pass Eslick on the outside and got bumped off his line, Josh went straight into the ditch and managed to keep upright, motocrossing through it as Scott Russell put it. Whew! If that wall were not removed, there would most likely have been a tragic outcome to this race. Congrats to the track owners for listening to the riders. And Double Congratulations to Danny Eslick for perhaps the most exciting race of the season, for finishing on the podium twice and tying up the points lead!! GO BUELL RACING!!! |

Danny is by far the most exciting and entertaining guy to watch in the AMA this season. It's also nice to see that everyone (even Hacking) seems to like him--even though they may hate the bike he is riding. Says alot about Danny's personality. |
