Hello Buellers, Sorry to be such a bothersome Bueller but I'm having yet another maintenance problem. This one I didn't cause myself. My battery isn't holding a charge. A stator voltage check shows 0, yup that's right, zero AC voltage coming out of the stator at the 2 pin plug going to the regulator. I checked it with 2 different meters at 2000 rpm. The stator has no shorts to ground and reads .8 ohms resistance with a DVM. The no AC output is enough for me to order a stator. Does anybody know of any ideosyncracies or secret inside info regarding stator failures on 97 S3Ts? I really like this bike and would like to take it on an epic cross country this fall but I don't know if I will have the balls to head out of town on such a high maintenance machine. Bruce |

What rpm's are you registering 0 VAC and are you on an AC scale? Are you on the connector out of the stator? When you check the stator lead to ground resistance are you on the infinity scale? |

Sparky, Yes, AC scale on both meters, I even dropped the range down to the 10V scale and got nothing, then stuck the meter in the wall outlet (higher scale) to see if it was working, it was. I think my DVM is auto ranging on ohms but i'll check it again to ground with my old analog meter set on RX1meg. Sure seems weird that the stator has O output, it's almost like the rotor is not turning but I don't think that's possible. I did find a chaff through on the regulator side of the two wire plug, looks like it rubbed through to ground. There's no sign of over heating in the wiring. Thanks for your interest and reply, Bruce |

Most likely, the bare wire you found had shorted out the stator wiring and that's why it does not put out AC volts yet it reads some ohms. Do you know what caused the exposed VR wire? |

Sparky, no, I haven't run down the insulation wear through yet but I'm thinking those manly vibes that you get below 3K rpm had something to do with it. Bruce |
