Any ideas on a reasonable price for an '08 X? I've seen a few listed on Cycle Trader, most at HD/Buell dealerships and if new new they list the MSRP - $11,495. Ok, I remember when HD was routinely charging $1-2K over MSRP for new bikes but those days are long gone. Were Buells ever sold above MSRP and why in the world would someone pay $11,495 for an '08 when the MSRP of a '10 is the same? If the bike is brand new but 2 years old what would be a fair price? Also if buying a used bike with say less than 10K miles, whats a fair price? Do you guys use KBB as a giude or NADA? KBB lists Trade-in value at $6170 and Retail at $8825. NADA lists Low Retail at $6730 and Average Retail at $8415. In the past when buying from an individual I've felt a fair deal for the buyer and seller is the midway point between Trade-In and Retail....using KBB, I come up with $7497 so $7500. I get just about the same with NADA using Low and Avg. Retail - $7572 or $7600. Do you guys think $7500 is a fair price for a used '08 XB12X with less than 10-15K miles and any ideas how much a dealer would let a new '08 that is sitting on his floor go for? Just trying to work the finances to see if my wants can beome realities. (Message edited by stellaglide on July 30, 2009) (Message edited by stellaglide on July 30, 2009) |

In May of '06, I gave (private party) $8500 for a '06 Ulysses with 850 miles on the clock. Came with service and parts manual too... Make your offer, all they can say is no thanks. |

SG- here's another source for values, Motorcycle Consumer News' Used Bike Value Guide: http://www.mcnews.com/mcn/usedbike/2009JulyBkGuide .pdf They say $7635 for a used 08. |

Just trying to work the finances to see if my wants can beome realities. Let's focus on that sentence. It talks about "wants". That's what a motorcycle is - a WANT. Go ahead - rationalize it. I DARE you. I don't care who you are, or how "hardcore" you are...a motorcycle is a WANT. We buy motorcycles because we WANT them, not because we need them. (And yes, I ride to work every day. Brought a customer's custom painted bodywork to the shop today and a co-worker asked "what the hell is *that*?", referring to my cage / 92 Wrangler beater. It wasn't a bike. He was confused.) If it's a new '08 - never titled, NEW - the ONLY difference is the number on the title, "08" instead of "09" or "10". You get full warranty. You get all the updates (ok, you don't get black triple trees like the '09, or the RSS family and different rear wheel bearings like a '10). It's NEW. Used bike is worth what the buyer is willing to pay, coupled with what the seller is willing to take. New bike is...well, it's a new bike. It's your call - miles and unknown history? Or more $$ and BRAND NEW. You have to decide that for yourself. NADA and KBB don't apply. They only deal in USED vehicles. I'm getting it already - people want "deals" on the '09 XLs we have. THEY DIDN'T CHANGE THE '10s. Well, aside from killing the 883C. Bold new colors? Bah. Bike's just as good as it was last week, before the dealer show. Sorry. Pet peeve. Want it? Pay a fair price - Fair Market Value - for it. Don't want it that bad? Maybe next year then...work on the budget some. The bike - new OR used - is worth it. |

Ratbuell Excellent points about wants vs. needs. I agree 100%. What I do find strange is that a NEW '08 sitting on a dealer floor next to a NEW '10 (with the improvements of the '10) and the dealer asking at or near MSRP. Yes it is a NEW bike but as soon as it rolls of the floor it is 2 years old regardless of the mileage. Now what is a used '10 with 500 miles worth and a used '08 with 500 miles. My guess is the used '10 will bring about $2K more so again regardless of what the dealer prices that '08 at, why would anyone buy an NEW '08 for say $5-700 less than a NEW '10 (with the improvements of the '10). I understand the dealers have a certain amount in the bike but if they haven't sold it in 2 years....good luck selling it in 3. If that is the position the dealers take then I will focus my search on a used bike. Hugh - Thanks for the link, that price compares with what I was thinking based on KBB and NADA. I only asked the question because I see a lot of '06 and '07 X bikes advertised from $7500-8000. Yes they have additional accessories but with an HD (what I'm familiar with) the accessories don't add much value in the used market and most guys will put their bike back to stock and sell the aftermarket accessories individually, ie., Ebay or something similar. I don't want to steal a bike, but at the same time I don't want to be taken behind the wood shed. Now I have a good estimate of what I can expect to pay for a used '08. |

SG - I agree. The "new" '08 should be a significant amount less the the '10...what anyone would consider to be significant is up to them, but more than $5-700. If the seller is unwilling to lower the price, the '10 would be a better buy in my opinion. |

Just take your time and find what you want for what you want to spend. There is a lot of bike's out for sale. Yesterday I bought a 09 UlyXT,582 miles and believe it or not it was 4 months old so lots of warranty left, paid $9600 for it.Had to drive 400 miles to get it but it was worth it to me! |

Have to agree with Beemer, I went to Great Falls, Montana from the Denver area to pick up an 08 factory demo with 2500 miles on it. Worth the trip for the 7499.00 price tag. |
