i need some. was pondering ......get a 1200 engine and swap it in. what say you? also thought of a wrecked bike for the engine and part out the extras that are still useable. can i just get 1200 pistons and do it that way? thanks Scott |

it be cheaper to get 1200 connecting rods and reuse your XB9 pistons. and you can reprogram your ECM with a XB12map. easy. My guess is that it will be a under$500 project if you go that way. versus a $2000motor swap Best ignore this little gem of advice as it would result in a compression ratio on par with that of an old women suffering from acute emphysema. Brad...the difference in engine size between the 900 and 1200 is from the longer stroke in the 1200....you will need a crankshaft assembly convert your 900 to a 1200 if you plan on using stock cylinder bore. The cheapest way would be a used engine...unless you can find parts really cheap and you have the tools and equipment to do the engine mods yourself. A more expensive alternative would be to use a big bore kit...but I'm pretty sure that a 1200 bore kit will required complete engine teardown and boring of the cases to fit the much larger jugs. With the short stroke of the 900...(same as a Blast) the engine with the big bore would be able to rev higher than the regular 1200 engine... |

hey fast i am hip to engine stuff, just not this particular type.was not sure the 2 different displacements were made just by stroke length.just for the sake of extra parts i think i would do well to seriously consider a used engine or just find a totaled xb12.extra parts are never a bad thing, and having extra hardware etc would be good too.mine is an 03,and that would be a good way to get updated on my belt drive as well. i was reading up on engine stuff, and v twin parts are stupid expensive.i love the reliabililty of good stock engines,so i doubt i'd ever have any interest in a lot of pricey engine work.these engines make a stupid amount of power as is,and any more will likely start making the life span shorter. |

An 03 XB9 engine with XB12 rods will still be breathing through the small Throttle Body and using the small headers and muffler |

The XB9 motor is a 3.125 stroke - Blast is a bit more (don't know off my head)... XB12 is 3.81 In my opinion IF you can afford the mods, the short stroke/big bore XB9 with the 3 13/16 bore makes a "racier" engine. It DOES require boring the cases (about $250 - $350 depending on where/who) and then you really do need to at least get the XB12 throttle body/injectors. |

thanks miko--maybe just sourcing an entire xb12 might be best. and dont the later engines have better oiling and bearings? |

Nope...Blast stroke is 3.125....same as the XB9. The 08 and better XB engines have better bearings and such. (Message edited by fast1075 on August 01, 2009) |

Gotchya there on the Blast stroke. Just didn't know the bore/stroke for the Blast and was too lazy to google it. |

I may (or may not) yet get a 3.81 stroke crank built and use the big bore cylinder with a full on XB head and serious cams for a 50+ hp Blast engine...just for grins n giggles. (Message edited by fast1075 on August 01, 2009) |
