You need an IL4 to compete in WSBK? That'll come as a real shock to Noriyuki Haga and Max Biaggi... |

I saw on another forum that it dynoed at 183hp at th wheel bone stock. a few minutes later a bone stock Gixxer did 160. They have been in the top 10 quite a bit so far. And are doing exactly what they said they will be doing. TC, ABS, Heated grips are options. It is a bad mofo and I can't see what it looks like when riding. |

And what is Biaggi's handicap, then? He's a hot head, with a win or wreck mentality? |

Actually, Biaggi's biggest handicap is his MOUTH. Looks like he's matured though and has mellowed out in his old age. He's taken the advice that's been given to him on the net for years: "SHUT UP, and ride the bike." I shaved awhile ago. The only gray on my head appears on my face and upper lip, so the easiest solution was just to shave it all off. When the top of my head begins to match, I'll let it grow back. As for the S1000RR's horsepower, I think BMW is learning that peak horsepower numbers alone don't win races. |

Wow, it does look a lot smaller than the impression I got from the press photo's in the magazines with no rider. I kind of like it . I think it's simplifying things just a little too much to say BMW just made another IL4. Sure it's an IL4, but I bet it's laid out quite differently internally to any of the japanese superbike IL4's, BMW have always had there own way of doing things. BMW Motorcycles said a few years ago that they wanted to be a force in every major bike category and they're giving it a good try. Who'd have thought BMW would make a motocrosser??? (Actually it's one of my pet peeves that people assume the japanese IL4's are all the "same". Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki and Suzuki all have their own unique ways of designing and manufacturing things.) "What makes more sense, starting a new bike racing program in a closer to stock national series and progressing from there, or spending millions to jump straight into World Superbike?" Not to mention the logistics and travel involved. Makes sense to me. "The folks at BMW Motorcycle are learning a hard lesson." True, but they're a tenacious and stubborn bunch Just my own rant - I wish they'd simplify the rules for Superbike. Something like: Must be available as street registered motorcycle in at least 5 countries, min production 5000. Max capacity - 1000cc normally aspirated, 500cc forced induction Must use standard production crankcases, crank, cylinder block, head casting, throttle bodies, frame. Use any piston and rods you like, increased bore to capacity limit ok. Use any suspension, wheels and brakes you like. Bodywork must have same profile as production bike. Minimum weights: Twins - 160kg Triples - 165kg Fours - 170kg Fives - 175kg Six or more cylinders - 180kg Vary weight limits at end of each season as required. Costs would probably sky rocket out of control, but I think it'd be cool |

That is a great point. I'd guess that people thinking they are all the same are only looking at the fairings, and have not worked on Japanese bikes much. When I was a bike mechanic I was always amazed at how different valve trains were on different Japanese bikes. I recently pulled the valve cover on my 10-year-old Gixxer and was blown away by how well everything was layed out, and how light and intricate the cast parts are. The Japanese stuff really is amazing internally, and changes and improvements are nearly constant. I just don't understand how people can lambaste amazing and beautiful engineering on the Japanese machines, unless they are only looking at spec sheets and fairings. |

Scott, "I just don't understand how people can lambaste amazing and beautiful engineering on the Japanese machines, unless they are only looking at spec sheets and fairings." Where are you reading such "lambasting" of the Japanese engineering? On BadWeB? I think you horribly misinterpret what folks mean here when they express opinions about the Japanese IL4 repli-racers. The engineering is world class. Some folks just don't care for the bikes, especially in hyper-turbine 16,000+ rpm mode like the 600cc models. (Message edited by blake on July 30, 2009) |

I consider any remark like "Ricer," "Rice Rocket," etc. to be a lambasting of Japanese motorcycles. Do a search and you'll see how many times those derogatory terms are used. Don't tell me you've NEVER seen anyone use those terms here. |

I found this a little fascinating though, http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Ric er

IL4s ARE great bikes. They MUST be. BMW replicated the design. For me, the issue with the final product is that there isn't much difference in the final delivered product. How different are the dyno charts between the products of the Big Four? |

I consider any remark like "Ricer," "Rice Rocket," etc. to be a lambasting of Japanese motorcycles. My buddy's personalized plate for his Triumph says "Tea Burner"- is that ridicule? Is he lambasting himself? Japan is well known for making sake and crotch rockets, so it seems quite reasonable to combine the two in good humor. I've never considered referring to a Japanese sportbike as an alcohol-burning land rocket an insult- seems more like a compliment to me. |

I still miss my old GSXR sometimes. That's why I picked up an $800 POS ex-race 1998 GIXXER 750 last year. Took a year to make it roadworthy, renthal bars mounted to the top triple and all. No fairings, round headlights, high bars, kind of replicated my Buell XBS setup (what's not to like?). Now I can choose soul vs. speed every time I walk in the garage. I really like riding both bikes, each has a radically different personality. Long rides rule on the Buell because of the engine sound and vibe. If I had to have only one, I'd keep the Buell. |

I purchased an '08 GSXR600 back in June. I am amazed at the torque, intake sound (which is really addictive), and overall rideability. The reality was so different that all of the ride reports I had read. I am having a blast with this little bike. If you haven't tried one lately you owe it to yourself to try one.....absolutely amazing bike. |

" Send me some pics! "If I had to have only one, I'd keep the Buell."... Ditto, but one day I'd like to get an early GSXR750, one with the flat slide carbs, and restore it. I rode an '03 GSXR1000 a while ago, and to me it still had some of the character of my oil-cooled '89. More comfortable though! I rode a Yam R6 for the first time a couple of weeks ago, last of the carb models, really nice bike but not my cup of tea. Great turn in and feel, but man you had to rev it! "...hyper-turbine 16,000+ rpm..." sounds about right! I would like to ride a recent GSXR600 and 750 to see what they're like though. I'm guessing I'd probably like the 750 . |
