I've got a 06 xb12 that I plan to upgrade with high flow filter and drummer exhaust. I have very, very basic skills. Is it better to find and buy a used race ECM for this, spy cable, or pay someone to re-map it for me?

I don't know that I'd ever go beyond these upgrades due to skill level and finances. Thanks.

American Sport Bike has maps for sale for common mods like that.

I'd get a spy cable and use ecmspy just for the tps reset functionality.

Otherwise your ecm should be fine as is. It will learn and change the fuel ratio accordingly.

I thought from the posts I read that the freeware programming for this didn't exist anymore? So it was only good if you had already downloaded it.

I want to get the most performance I can. I just don't want to ruin the engine being a re-tard. (as evidenced by the double post I can't figure out how to delete)

I saw American sportbikes and the cable and race chip say contact us. Is this something really easy to do?

Last year I tried to fix my xb9 that was running poorly. After I was done they had to drain the gas (over octaned it), reset the computer (all it likely needed), replace the heads (I stripped the threads).

I'm a little scared of touching it to much.

I would go with buying the ECMspy cable. If you get it from ebay they usually give you the software free of charge. It is extremely easy to do yourself. Just make sure you read the user guide first before messing with it. I didn't read the whole thing and kinda messed things up.
