Just picked up a 2000 Blast from Jimduncan69.... it needs some tlc and a BFH
The starter had died and needed a new one installed....
Just finished installing it and I'm looking forward to getting the rest of it put back in running/riding order...

SOOOOO... what's some of the things I need to look for, Update and fix on this bike that no longer has the love of BMC...

Get it running.
Dont adjust the primary according to the manual (got/get a manual).
What do you want to do with it? Modify it, put it back to stock, sell it?
How many miles on it?

I'm just going to ride it... I hope the wife take a interest in it.
If she doesn't, I may put some dirt tires on it and have some fun on the four wheeler trails.

It has 6796 miles and it looks like its be in a yard sale or two...

My first guess would be a broken, loose or disconnected ground cable. Does the clutch cable heat up when cranking? Look for the ground at the front isolator.

That thing just needs some love. Maybe that one is Christine....crushed into a cube....but coming back for revenge.

The main ground cable for motor to chassis hooks to the front engine hanger then to the frame.

While to are looking...check the front Iso. (not knowing if you are familiar with the bike) If the large washer is against the top of the rubber the iso has failed. This is the most common failure with a blast other than the intake boot.

ITS ALIVE!!!

Pulled the tank and put a finger on the ground wire bolts and was able to turn them with my finger... and they had oil on them...

SOOOOO

took it all apart, wire brushed it, put it back together and hit the starter switch and it fired right up!!

Now I'm in a mad rush to put it back together before the wife gets home so I can so I can go "TA DA" when she pulls into the garage.... didn't make it..

BUT! I did get to take it for a test ride last night and it ran great!!
now I just need the shifter lever to come in the mail so I can put my vise grip back in the tool box!

WOOO HOOO!!

Watch out for Das Boot as well. If you aren't using the stock airbox, it will be prone to ripping. May want to check into a super-boot.

She's got the stock air box back on it... the only non stock items I can see... would be the exhaust and front turn signals.

Oh Wolf - Wolf - Wolf. You bought that from Jimduncan69? You know he was raised by iternerate farm workers. He has probably used the Blast to lay off rows in a newly plowed field.

At least you've got it runnin.
Won't be able to make the rally but will try for next year.

I was going to buy it.... but the wife has shown no interest in it at all.
So Gary gets a running bike back that he should be able to get a little more coin for....

Besides... I like fixing things.
