I had a chance to ride a 1125R at Road America with the optional Showa suspension parts and ohlins damper. While I think the stock forks and shock are very good, the optional parts were a big step up. I had no idea they would be so cheap...a helluva bargin I think.... Ken |

Struck me as reasonably priced as well. Anyone have details on the units? Might have to rethink the revalving to the stockers I was gonna do on both ends. |

The Showa race shock was used by Shawn Higbee at Daytona for the 200 and at most of his Willow Springs races. It is a "helluva" bargain. The aluminum bodied shock is a pound lighter than stock, is length adjustable, has a threaded spring preload adjustment, and offers rebound and compression clickers. Buell Racing also is offering optional springs for this shock from 525 lbs/in to 600 lbs/in. |

How much better is the race shock over the production unit? I was going to send out my rear shock and have a new spring installed and maybe revalved. All of that is going to cost me $350 or so. My suspension guy told me the forks were very good for a production bike and they would only need minor things to improve them. |

For the price, I would get both the forks and the shock, no question. At Road America, I was able to go almost one braking marker deeper after the long straights and my exits were better as well. Nothing like getting something that was designed for your bike by the people who build and race it. |

Shawn, who's definitely living the privateer life, where cost effectiveness is extremely important, has been running the Showa fork cartridges that Ken Hill liked so much as well. The Showa 25mm fork cartridges definitely improve fork control at about a third the cost of the Ohlins alternative. |

Interesting...these fork cartridges are about 1/3 cheaper than the AK-20 drop ins that everyone raves about...and not too much more than a stocker re-valve job by the top of the line suspension shops....oh the choices!!! So anyone want to take a stab at the performance difference between the Buell Showa cartridges mentioned above and a Traxxion revalve job on the stockers? PS--Thanks Ken for your opinions. If you haven't guessed your opinion is well respected for obvious reasons. |

My 2006 CBR6000 that I raced had AK-20s and I liked them very much. I have not ridden a 1125R with them, but I can say the Showa carts from Buell were not holding ME back at all.... If I had a 1125R to play or race(umm Hello Buell, I am ready!) I would have the Showa parts on it in a heartbeat. Ken |

Race subframe is shorter, less material= lighter. |
