Well my wife had to go to a retirement party and what was I to do. Drink beer? Fire up the XBox? Nope, pull out old gear I hadn't used in a while and make 3, five mile comparo runs on my 06 Uly. Run 1: Put on the 06 short seat. Wear my fairly new Scorpion EXO-900 transformer helmet. At the bike I realize I forgot my ear plugs. O.K., I'll compare that too. Run 1 impressions. Seat is like setting on a rock. I've been in church pews with no padding that are more comfortable than this. I slide all over the plastic seat surface. Yuck. OMG, my quiet Scorpion is a whistle magnet without the ear plugs. Where did all these gaps come from? Foam ear plugs makes a huge difference in ride noise. Run 2. Put on the 07 short seat. Switch to my Arai XD helmet also with no ear plugs. Run 2 impressions. Ah, the seat is much better. But still not my favorite. The helmet, being full face is much quieter than my new Scorpion. Lot's of whooshing but no whistling. Not bad. Run 3 I put on the 06 tall seat and convert the Scorpion to open face. Run 3 impressions. I love this seat. I have been riding with this for the last 6 months or more. It's comfy, roomy and fits my tuckus. Wait what that? Where is all this space junk coming from? Little gnat meteors are hitting me like a space shuttle ride. Lot's o noise but I expected that. The winner? None of the above. My favorite setup is 06 stock tall seat, Scorpion EXO-900 with ear plugs and full visor. I love the flip down sun visor on the Scorpion and with plugs it's quiet enough. Maybe I should have just stayed home, played XBox and drank beer......Naaaaa! |

Oh, sit back, smoke a stoggie, drink a cold one! I have to get my bike back together! Down for maintenance.....new front tire, check rotor hardware, bearing grease, fix wires, fix other wires, plug that damn vacuum port that opened up like yours did, clean air filter, install new plugs, fix another wire, change oil, change primary oil, change fork oil. Test ride for 400 miles, then I can sit back and empty a cold one. |
