Anyone get a little chill reading this? It does well capturing the essence of what a Bueller is all about. I love the tone of it. I love the shots at conventional squid-dom. I just love it. Well done, Buell.
I'm digging it. This is finally making officially public what Erik has always felt, believed, and said in private. He's being true to himself and telling the establishment to go @#$^ themselves.
If the Book of Buell seems no different from the H-D baloney poser crap advertisements, then you don't know Erik Buell. The Book of Buell is straight from the heart. When has H-D ever made a major ongoing commitment supporting privateer racers or publicly crushed one of their own motorcycles? All I've ever heard from them is hollywood-crafted lifestyle type poser baloney.
I see no difference in that book of buell crap then any other tribalistic faux-badass attitude. In the real world when I meet a person with that kinda attitude, I usually avoid them.
I'm sorry but it's been bugging me ever since I saw that tripe. I'm a motorcyclist in the truist sense of the word. I like all bikes. I ride streetbikes. I take a passing interest in racing and racebikes. To me it's always been about the ride not what you ride. I guess I was the one who was mistaken. Erik does make kick ass street (and now racing) bikes. Can't fault the man if his passion is racing. Mine is not.
You can find pretention anywhere. We laugh and joke about the pretentiousness of the BMW guys, Ducati guys, Squids, and Hardly's. Guess we can join the club now with our own brand of arrogance.
He's being true to himself and telling the establishment to go @#$^ themselves. I firmly believe that people should be true to themselves. To do otherwise is folly. That's great. But I the way I read it is 'if you're not a racer go @#$> yourself.' of 'if you're just a motorcyclist go @#$> yourself.'
I've never felt less inclined to buy a new buell. Don't get me wrong, they're fking awesome. I've been planning on buying an XT from Bumpass when I get back from the sand. I'd just hate to associate myself with that kinda attitude.
First time through, it seems shocking. I said to myself "sounds a little elitist!" Started reading it aloud to my wife who walked in the room and she said " That's the way you talk about your motorcycle all the time!" " Buell this, Buell that!" Better this, THEY don't do it like BUELLLLL does!"
The grin of enlightenment formed on my face..........
I'm still going to stop on the side of the rode when I see a bike stopped, to see if they need help. And they don't have to be on a real racing bike. At the same time I'll stick by the "if you ain't on a Buell, I got your corner". It's OK to have drive, and an attitude as long as you keep a heart. The book's not exactly the way I would have done it, but hey I'm just a rider.
Well, to Gregtonn and everybody else I apologize then. Rereading my last post does seem like a rant. It was directed squarely at Blakes condescending post to me.
I guess having a poor opinion of the new marketing material means I no read so good. He can chalk it up to my bad interpretation and poor reading skills all he wants. I say it's bad presentation.
Elitist bullshit is now offered in HD, BMW, or now new 'Ruthless Buell' flavor.
Your innovation was innovative ten years ago. It is now HOW BUELL DOES THINGS BETTER. Realize it, Own it, and concentrate on making your bikes appeal to the groups outside of the one that already knows your bikes kick @ss.
It took one ride on the 1125R for me to know it was the bike I had to have, and trust me, I had to have an S1W so bad that I built 5 or six jap bikes into streetfighters trying to get that B.A. look that the S1 had before I finally found one in Montana. None of them even came close to the real thing once I rode one. It was like the first time I made out with a chick. I knew "THIS WAS FOR ME!"
I would say that if anyone reads the Book of Buell and comes away thinking that Buell's intent is to say to the world that 'if you're not a racer go @#$> yourself' then he/she absolutely no reads good.
Hey everyone, if you get the impression that the book of buell has that "if you're not a racer go @#$> yourself'" your wrong. I really doubt that the only thing Erik wears now is black and he lets the elves get drunk and beat up squids and midgets on their lunch break.
This is the same ole buell we know and love. I doubt buell wanted to get rid of the blast, but most likely had no choice. So because buell is made of people like you and me they probably figured well lets try to have fun with this and get a laugh even if we are crying inside.
