I did not know it was ever to be a "Sport bike" Why make fun of a bike after you took the customers money for it. I think the Blast is a cool little starter bike. I think they could have sold many more if they were ever in dealers. |

Damn, dude. It's a joke. Yes, it's a good starter bike, but was it a big volume piece for Buell? I don't know. Was it profitable? I don't know. Did it drive traffic into showrooms? I don't know. You know who knows? Buell. So far, they have made some pretty good decisions, and if this is clearing out capacity for a new model in the future, and is not a particularly profitable and maybe a stale model in their lineup, I bet they are just making a good business decision. And did I mention that it was just friggin Funny? R PS: How many starter models does Ducati make? (Message edited by carbonbigfoot on July 25, 2009) |

I think the Blast is a cool little starter bike. I think they could have sold many more if they were ever in dealers. We had 5 new Blasts last weekend. ALL were slated for the RE program. Dealers had them, they just didn't sell them. They were spoken for. RE programs charge $250 per person per weekend. Most dealers run 40+ programs per year. That's $10,000 per year per bike. Even if your classes were only 50% full, you would pay for a Blast every year. If you sold them for 50% of MSRP, you'd make $12,500 per year per bike if fully employed. The profit for the SALE of a blast was less than $750 at full MSRP. If you sold 17 Blasts per year, you would equal the profit made off of one Blast bought in January, used all year in RE, and sold at the end of the year for 50% of MSRP. Why the hell would a dealer want to put them on the floor? |

Hilarious! Don't think we ever got that model here though. PS: How many starter models does Ducati make? Don't know about the states, but over here we got the Monster 620ie for a learner mount. Not real popular on account of the cost/crashability. |

i find it interesting that buell decided to drop the blast model. its widely known that buell makes a buttload of blasts, i believe its got the highest or second highest production numbers company wide. i also understand that buell, being the odd company that it is, wants nothing to do with a bike that will damage its overall identity. lets say youre a new rider and you go through the MSF course or harley's overpriced RE course. what are you riding on?? a honda nighthawk or a blast. when buell spends so much time making america's most badass sportbikes and adventure bikes, it hurts its image when people link the dinky blast to the buell name. its almost counterproductive to developing a company's image; and we all know erik buell has a pretty well defined and clear image of what he wants the company to be. it could hurt or help buell, its too early to tell. i did enjoy erik's video though! i wonder what harley will do to replace the market segment, though? will we be back to selling beginners sportsters? hmm.... for some good kick in the pants entertainment, go check out the blast forum on BWB to see some of today's posts! most of the girlyguys over there are SUPER butthurt and a couple of them just realized that their bikes are going to be collectors items now never to be made again! |

Listen to what is being said, The blast is killing the brand as they put a new campaign up that says we don't care what you think? The japanese entered this country through entry level bikes and cars. It was because of a Blast that started my love/trust with Buell that sold the next four Buells to me. The first time owner is a prize if handled correctly its a customer for life. If image is such a concern they would have worried more about the 1125 then the Blast as the Blast likely has a better imagine in the market place and the press. |

BRAD, its too bad your back; i bet i speak for most of us when i say youre a nice guy, but we didnt miss your absence in the least bit. the blast doesnt represent what buell is about... in the least bit. the 1125 DOES represent what buell is about. ..and despite the 2008's initial teething problems and bad rep because of them, fast forward to today almost 2 years later, the 1125's hardly have a bad reputation. the CR was a slam dunk in the market, and the 2009 MY 1125r's have had how many problems?...none. and of course it hasnt helped the 1125's reputation in the least bit by its AMA exposure this leaves only one question.. i wonder how much erik will be selling the 'limited edition signature series' 2010 blasts for?? It was a soldier that performed its duties faithfully. As in real life you do not disrespect the soldier even if you do the war. Canceling the bike is not at all controversial, seems odd that it has a less than honorable death and thus the current owners of said bike, ummm I mean end table. Sorry I spoke up. I still buy several new bikes every year and was hoping my old favorite Brand would find a place in my garage once again, but instead of making an effort to seperate the 2010 from the 2008 on the sales floor they spent the money on a new logo. |

Maybe it's just me, but I sense a dark and cynical bitterness behind the Blast "jokes" and video in the "Book of Buell". I wonder if the serious side of this might have anything to do with Buell going independent again (or perhaps not being able or allowed to), though this is purely my own speculation; I've not heard anything at all about it. Combined with the other "jokes" about waving and 2-up, I think it does sorta make sense... |

It seemed like Buell was setting the stage for a replacement. If not, it is a strange way to announce that a model is being discontinued. If I recently bought a Blast, this would not make me feel good about my purchase. |

I don't think anyone cares minds or does not understand discontinuing a bike. It is a slap at the owners as they thought they were buying a transportation piece (implied by previous sales literature) and Buell said I'll sell you and end table the current value of it. Just stop building it quietly as it contradicts the we don't care what you think advertising as you kill one of your own children for the sake of what people think. |

I would never buy a blast, but that was a major insult to people who spent there hard earned money on one. I’m sure they are in the mood to run out a buy another buell right now. You can’t turn back time. Buell made them, then to treat them with as much respect as some bikers burning a jap bike at a party was wrong. It must make current owners feel like a**holes .Very poor marketing idea. Piss off old buyers and new buyer will not care anyway. Does Aprilla’s scooter sales hurt them?? |

Why? EB said it was a good bike. I would rather the Blast go out in a blaze of glory and help the company out than in the dark quietly. I started on a Blast and I'm not offended at all! I loved it! |
