I'll be sad to see the Blast go but Badlionsfan is right. Now many "Improvements To The Blast We'd Like To See" threads have there been? Me? I love the Blast. I went from MSF class to scraping the pegs on one. My big issue isn't replacing the Blast, it's the crappy way Buell is handling things with that ad in CycleWorld. Don't imply the Blast is a POS. I freakin' know better! (Message edited by Zane on July 24, 2009) |

I do a lot more reading than writing on BadWeb, and if there's one thing I've learned in my countless hours, it's to look for, and trust, what Court says. He may not come right out and say things, but most of the time you can infer the tone of his posts. For instance, here are some quotes from his first posts after the screen shot of the "offensive" ad was posted...
quote:Let me be the first to say that the ad to me, as a Buell owner, is insulting. Buells are NOT about "racing and sportbikes" and in fact never have been. Someone has completely missed the essence of the Buell community or they are trolling for a new community.
quote:I guess it's just me . . . as a construction worker, but now is not the time I would be alienating ANY of my customer base. The next time someone walks up to my Ulysses and asks . . . "how would that bike be for me?" . . I hate to think about telling them that the company is "entirely dedicated to racing and sportbikes". I'm withholding judgment till I see some facts . . . something just doesn't look right.
quote:Moving ahead is one thing, dissing your own heritage is another.
Those kind of comments from Court didn't leave me with a good feeling about this whole thing. Then, about 15 hours later, I started seeing this...
quote:Patience. Sit down. Hold on.
quote:It's all good.
quote:Buell done ANYTHING lately that you thought was "dull and uninteresting".? Sit down, shut up and HOLD ON!
I have a sneaking suspicion that tomorrow we're gonna see something really cool, so I'm sitting down, shutting up, and holding on. |

I have been jumping up and down for an updated bike...slicker has been foaming at the mouth for a dirt bike...that isn't the issue...nobody has said that a Blast is a killer bike...it all goes back to the old school days when no bike was a killer bike unless you tweaked it into something better. That ad is like taking a beloved pet that is old and weak but still limps over to lick your hand in spite of it's pain...and beating it brains out with a hammer... |

It's hard to see how a new or updated bike would justify that ad. For starters, the Blast isn't going away it's just not going to be associated with Buell. I'm not sure how one does that, considering Buell builds the Blast. Perhaps, production is shifting to a HD facility? In any case, a new bike with a different name, even if it's a thumper, doesn't excuse the tone of the ad. |

did anyone ever think that the mother ship might take over the blast platform so the stealerships can get away from the buell marriage. the blast is pretty much from what i see, the only reason why the dealer down here hangs on to the buell line. just so they can have the motorcycle safety course. right now i think they have maybe 6 bikes and no accessories on the floor. god know's what they have in parts. my wife likes her blast, especially after we made a few simple changes on it. |

you don't have to sell Buell to have Rider's Edge. The dealership across the bay has RE and keeps a fleet of Blasts for that purpose but they do not sell Buells, Buell parts, or Buell Merchandise. Occasionally they sell a used Blast left over from Riders Edge. |

let me rephrase that, they keep them so they can get the discount on the bikes from what i understand. if they didn't carry the line they would have to pay regular price. i could be wrong but that was my understanding of it. |

The way I see it, that ad is intentionally creating a vacuum for something equally powerful to rush in and take its place. The tone of the ad is to characterize the Blast positively as "cute" and negatively as not like a race or sport bike. So, one can infer that whatever replaces the vacuum that the former Buell Blast's demise created will be something that will positively be characterized as racer or sport oriented (sorry, poor choice of words) aligned and negatively as definitely not a beginner's or RE bike. I'm not saying Super Motard, enduro or motocross here; furthermore, other than my intuition, I know nothing. One can only dream. (Silver Dream Racer)... Court, how'd I do? rhetorical - no need to answer immediately |

If 2010 Blasts are being delivered -- albeit without a Harley or Buell moniker -- someone is still making them although not claiming them. That leaves Buell to design a sportier bike with better handling characteristics that meets a lower price point than the XB9X. Whether it's a single or its displacement size doesn't matter as much as it not being seen as a purely beginner bike or lacking sport credentials. Who knows what we're getting? We know it won't be cute. We know it won't be as suitable for newbies. We know it won't look as good beneath the table lamp. We know it will run well and be cutting edge. It'll be interesting. |

It's a stretch, but why can't we see a helicon based single? Ditching the Blast I think would simply the production line. Is an air cooled jug & head feasible on the helicon? If a one lung beast such as this were to be offered, I'd be curious what sort of price point it could be sold at. I for one would welcome most a decent suspension - and that's really it. Let's see what we get - if anything. -Saro |

It'd be easier to task one of the other fine singe cylinder offerings from Rotax than to try to strip a cylinder off the 1125 engine. While we're at it, why not the parallel twin:

It's what's currently in the F800 series from BMW. It would make one HELL of a light twin. I think it could be packaged very compactly to still make a good beginner bike. |
