has anyone changed them to something different than stock - my 12k service on the CR will be here before i know it so just trying to gather some info | ||

I changed mine with the stock Iridium. The 1st set still looked very good but it would be a PIA to change them at another time. I'm getting my 24k service done in the next week or three and I've already bought my supplies. BTW, besides plugs I would recommend having valve cover gaskets and muffler/ header gaskets on hand just in case. Last september my Dealer couldn't get the muffler/ header gaskets and re-used the originals. Later Neil S. | ||

Valve cover gasket kit: RA001.1AM Muffler inlet gasket: SO185.1AMC Sparkplug: 2305 or CR9EKB It's not Iridium. This what it looks like:  I have two of the parts listed above. I would rather not have to wait for parts to come in when service is being done. Neil S. | ||

That's interesting that your plugs looked good, Neil. when I changed mine at the 12.4k, they were shot. First time I can recall seeing worn-out plugs. The electrode was oval, no longer round, from the spark. I was impressed and bought a fresh set. Replaced with OEM CR9EKBs. Z | ||

So if one should get the best of the best which one shouldi buy? On my old monster 800 i blew the sparks every 1500 miles even though it was the ones specified by the manual. It turned out that my short trip city driving never got the plugs hot enough and therefore clogged them up. So when we changed them to some that ran hotter the bike was very happy and didnt need New ones until next big service. (Message edited by Andros on July 24, 2009) | ||

I would hesitate fixing something that ain't broken, especially since they are such a PIA to change (the front one that is). | ||

Spark plug self cleaning procedure. Repeat the following sequence 3 times:1. Roll and hold the throttle wide open.2. Turn the ignition to ON.3. Wait 3 seconds.4. Release the throttle grip.5.
