thanks ferris and @blake : I only hear good things about ASB, yes. So good it seems to good to be true. Telefix ? never heard of them, but yes I would like as much of that superior german engineering on it as possible :-) I will call spiegler later they are a local phone call away and order the street bar and maybe call ASB today or tomorrow. About the hugeness factor: I have talked to a few people about this including John Hoban http://www.hobanbrothers.com/ since I had the same concerns, he stated that since the bike is setup to function in a proper way for two people ( which amounts to the weight of ein boeser deutscher :-) ) it should not be a problem. I havent really been able to take it to its limits, I will do the same on my "other" forks and shocks - RST Hi 5, Votec GS 4 OS ( www.votec.com ) , Fox Vanilla, Risse Terminator etc etc and just set them to the softest and plushiest setting and dial them in from there. Nevertheless I will gladly take your advice and check out traxxion and prepare myself for what could be coming up. The RST and the VOTEC both were heavily modified too and I assume are in principal the same :-) Those of you that know what they are will smile now I know ..... :-) But I see what you mean by checking traxxion: Front fork problems Virtual Max has found with the 1999 Buell X-1 The forks on this motorcycle are considered by many tuners to be excellent quality components. They are damping adjustable Showa units. They do lack an external preload adjuster. While these forks do have excellent bump absorbing ability, they are extremely underdamped, even for street use. The springs are too soft as well. These flaws combine to result in a soft, mushy, vague fork that inspires little confidence for aggressive use. hmm.. I will keep on reading thanks for the advice .... boese in OH |

"Anybody seen that new volvo commercial on tv? Is that an S1 running the volvo off the road? " Haven't seen the commercial, but it's probably Rocket/Sean trying to get his pic and bike on tv.

I did and it pisses me off. I've never seen a bike run a Volvo off the road. That would imply that the driver was paying attention. I've been run off the road more than once by people in Volvos. You know what a motorcyclist is to a volvo driver? A hood ornament. Hey, maybe if you had been driving instead of slapping your kids putting on makeup and talking on the cell, he wouldn't have had to pass your sorry ass. |

I answered my own question. ABCNEWS.com has a breaking news bulletin. It says that an oil refinery in the New York City Borough of Staten Island is on fire. It's a 3-alarm fire that started at 10:10 am ET. I hope nobody was hurt and that it wasn't terrorism related. |

More on the fire. Evidently a propane barge was being fueled at an oil terminal on the Arthur Kill waterway that separates Staten Island from New Jersey. CNN says that they've closed the port, establishe a 1/2 mile evacuation radius around the site, and that the Coast Guard has responded with three cutters and at least one helicopter. There is no indication of the exact cause at this time. |

Propane or oil? If propane I'd be in the basement for about an hour after they get it under control. |

Initial reports were that the barge at Staton Island was being loaded with propane. They're now saying that it had over 100,000 barrels of unleaded gasoline and that it was being unloaded. Apparently two are currently missing. |

I don't think that would be a very complete, or efficiant burn of that unleaded. There is a lot of nasty stuff in there that they require by law, so If I was you Court, I would get on my bike, and get the ---- out of there for a while. You know the government is not going to warn you about the dangers, until it is too late. At least stay up wind of it. Good Luck! Barry |

Ferris...Your from my land! I can understand how you decided to move. It rains here a lot! a "lot"? that's putting it pretty mildly. sometimes i miss all the rain, and the fact that you can't keep a bike clean, and how everything's always rusting and corroding on it, and when you go riding you can barely move for all the wet-weather gear you have to wear, and corners become things to be avoided rather than cherished because all the water flooding them is hiding a bunch of sand from the last freeze, and it doesn't matter because you can't see for all the spray being kicked up by all the cars and trucks around you, and............. hmmmmmmmmm, actually i don't miss the rain at all. Farris, I just reread that article about you and Joe in the desert. We will have to all get together some time for a ride. Maybe next fall, after the Buell sales season. My friend Scott Renaud, and I went down last year in October and rented Road Kings at Las Vegas HD. Spent 4 days with Joe, running the roads down by his place. So I get to the bottom of the article, and His banner add is dead, so I go to write him, and he had one in my inbox. How bought that! I'm on the local, Pacific Northwest Museum of Motorcycling Board of Directors. We did a display call The Fastest Corner in the Northwest, that ran at the Seattle Museum of History and Industry, through most of the Summer. Speed Vision came and taped the closing ceramonies, and it will be on SPEED CHANNEL - Tuesday, February 25th, I do not know the times of the show, and do not have cable, but it should be a good show to watch, and you may even see a shot of my KH. |

I know a Volvo can whip a buell any day in a crash test. I recently had an accident when a women in a blue Volvo drove across three lanes of traffic to crush me and my 2002 X1 WL. I survived with a broken leg and the buell only has minor damage. The event was quit different from the TV ad. |

May be we should get after Volvo on this one. Most volvo drivers I have known, are pretty uptight. I saw the add last night, and was concentrating on the bike, not what was happening in the acton. I'll look around for Volvo's number. We can make their phones melt down, I'm sure. We will just spread the news to others bikers on the net. Barry |

Volvo is frequently cited for their abusing of ethics and legal boundries in advertising. In fact, one of the better ad campaigns (Subaru's "Volvo's are known for surviving accidents, Subaru's avoid them" did ad advertising judo move by turning Volvo's own strength against them. A few examples follow. I have not seen the ad. I'd have to see it and form my own opinion prior to participating in approaching Volvo's ad agency.
Quote:Evaluating the truth of an ad is complicated because it depends not just on its words but also on its visuals and context, and on whether deceptive techniques were used. A case in point was a Volvo ad in which a monster truck ran over a row of cars and only the Volvo survived. It turned out that the Volvo had had its support beams reinforced. Michael Lee, managing partner at the Volvo agency, Messner Vetere Berger McNamee Schmetterer/Euro RSCG in New York, part of the Euro RSCG Worldwide unit of Havas Advertising. My favourite example of Volvo-phobia is the tag line to a lawyer's ad that runs regularly in the motorbike press in the UK. It reads: "Have you been Volvo'd?".....
.... a good summary of the legal concepts involved can be found here... |
