If you got a good deal on a bike, would you fly in and ride it back home? How far is too far for a good deal? What would constitute a "good deal" on a 2008 1125R or 2009 1125R/CR? |

Check and see if you find one thats a distance away. Buell offers up to 500 dollars I believe for travel to get a bike. I had one dealership pay for my plane ticket and hotel room for one night and I drove it home. |

My good deal numbers are always down where dealers on here are gasping a grumbling. They're a year behind on their offered numbers from my view. That dealer whom many dealers here don't like is close with their pricing. They need to be on the road numbers though. As for travel, to me anything beyond a couple hours just ship it. Which then returns an edge to local dealers to get close enough on pricing to still be a savings. |

I would say it would depend on the cost to get there compared to local pick up. If Buell would cover all or part of the cost, it would make the decision easier, but the out of town deal would still need to be at least a bit better to cover time. For a good deal I'd be glad to travel. If you know of a great deal on a 1125R feel free to let me know. |

My friend just drove an 08 1125r home today, 28 miles out the door with a few extras for 9k. I'd almost say he stole it. |

What would it take to make a travel deal worth it besides a good price? Airfare? Hotel? Diner? Thrown in Accessory/part? |

I drove 8 hours each way (16 round trip) to buy my Ulysses for two reasons: 1) Neither of my local dealers had one in stock. 2) I saved $1,500 over the best local deal I'd been offered. I factored in the cost of the hotel room and gas, and added in the face that I enjoy a good road trip, and off to Florida I went. What makes me want to deal with a far away dealer is two things. Price and wanting to support a dealer who's dedicated to helping it's customers. Over the years I've formed a good relationship with my local dealer, and when the time comes to buy my next Buell, I'll be buying from Bumpus in Mufreesboro. I'm sure they will make me a good deal, and I will enjoy supporting the dealer who supports me. |

Mr. Fatty, seems to me that I recall another Buell salesman (Dave S) in the not so distant past that had a "fly & ride" gig at another dealership (Appleton). Have you picked his brains on tips/tricks/pointers? For myself, if I was in the market now for a bike, here's what I'd be looking for on a "Fly & ride" deal: *Comparable or better price than local *Pickup from airport *Flexible hours (What if the plane gets in at 10 pm?) *Some "wining & dining" (burger & swag would do it) *Mailing any luggage home for me that I can't fit/take on the bike. I don't think you'd have to spend a lot of $$$ on this from a dealer perspective if you do it right. Just my $0.02 and YMMV. |

Ok, it looks like I could pick up an 1125R around here for ~$7990. So if I can find one under that by $200 or more for the most part I'd be willing to travel if I could get there cheaper. If it cost me more to travel I'd figure that in to the price I'd need. The idea of taking a road trip to get home sounds good to me. I'd ask here if the local dealer(s) could match first as I'd want to work with a dealer long term. I like to be able to get work done where I purchase whenever possible, and get to know the people. |

So what would constitute a "good" price worthy of a trip? '08 1125Rs at the dealer closest to me are marked at $8995 right now (not including TTL and the other various & sundry markups). If you are able to market the "fly & ride" as being comparable or better to total costs (True OTD costs), I think you might be picking some folks up @ the airport. Just my opinion & YMMV. |

Talking no set up fees or shipping. $8995 is significantly below dealer cost. At this point, it would have to be to move the product. |

Figure $650 for shipping and just have it crated/shipped... unless you're LOOKING at a ride just for fun. If you can't save at least $650, fuggedaboudit. I don't think that a long cross-country ride to break in a new bike is a very good idea (unless you can find some good routes that take you over some twisty bits with a lot of throttle and tranny variations) |

(unless you can find some good routes that take you over some twisty bits with a lot of throttle and tranny variations) Ah good point... So maybe a place like Tennessee would be a good place for that breakin ride??

Tom: I'm sure one or two of us could find a twisty road here-or-there ;+}. Maybe even someone to ride along! Speaking of that, I'll have to poke Frank and get a ride or 3 together. |

What about a fly in, bike orientation/"test ride" to break in the bike really well accompanied by an oil change before the departure the following day? Fly in in the morning, take the bike for a break in ride in the afternoon, dinner, with bike full of fuel and fresh oil before the departure the next day? |

Ft_Bstrd, Do you have a deal you want to talk about? I'm looking so if you have a price good enough for me to travel let me know. Like I said there is at least one dealer here telling me $7995+ tax, title, license, Thats it, no freight and handling. Another dealer 30 minutes away isn't far behind, but I haven't made it out there yet. Hard to believe they are willing to take a $1000 loss to dump the bikes. Are you sure on the dealer cost? |

Fly in in the morning, take the bike for a break in ride in the afternoon, dinner, with bike full of fuel and fresh oil before the departure the next day? Things not stated in there, but that you should probably plan for: *Pickup & transportation from the airport(s) to the dealer *Handle mailing (receiving rider's gear before they get in/mailing whatever they can't ride home with back for them) You roll that all together with competitive pricing, and you should be able to get some folks taking you up on it. I know I would if I were in the market. |

Are you sure on the dealer cost? Absolutely sure. Do you have a deal you want to talk about? No particular deal in mind. Just thinking out loud. There are dealers with bikes and no traffic. There are dealers interested in creating traffic but without bikes. If one could relocate inventory while providing a delivery package whereby a buyer would be able to travel to a dealership and have a buying experience, would it work? Like a chicken in every pot, I want a Buell in every garage. |

On top of the cost of time and travel, it would also need to qualify as new for tax purposes. Not sure if demo bikes qualify as new? As you probably know the tax code for this year will let you deduct tax on a new vehicle, so that is another few hundred bucks of benefit. Another thought is what someone else posted in response to my thought of being happy to road trip home on a bike, is the break in. Would cruising the highway the whole way home screwup normal breakin procedures? |

Looking most likely at overstock 2008 and 2009 models. Should qualify as new, untitled. |

I slabbed it from Dayton to Lexington, KY and then hit twisties almost exclusively for the next 350 miles or so, finishing up with the slab known as the ATL. Lots of gear and throttle changes, and lots of fun. |

The dealer in Vegas will sell 08's for $7,999 plus tax title etc. They have what looked like a dozen 08's still to sell. I wish I had more cash laying around. |
