Hello all, Looking for any hints to why this might be happening, Thanks.

Started having intermittent engine cut out similar to hitting the rev limit:
mostly when cold
never during idle
gets worse under heavy throttle to the point of engine cut off and/or backfiring
but still hiccups or hesitates during easing on throttle
mostly between 2k-3k and recently 4-5k RPM
also have had Check Engine light stay on and the fan kicking on for a minute or two after this has happened or even when turning on ignition when cold - again intermittent
seems to run just fine otherwise

recently dropped on left side when stopped, actually second time in past 18 months (kick stand vibrated off concrete )

possibly relevant but if not need to figure this out too... over the past few months or so i have noticed that if I close the garage after getting home before the bike's fan stops running and then go back out there, there is a heavy gasoline smell (no visible leaks or any other symptoms of that) (this started before the hesitation problem)

Thanks for any advice.

I would start by refreshing the battery cable connections. And, while you're at it, the grounds under the seat.

Could be a chaffed plug wire too...

Thanks for the suggestion... I think you may be right.
I have found a couple things. Low oil (need to be more vigilant!) and the front bracket that holds the muffler has snapped which may be stressing the header connections (could this explain the fuel smell during cool down?)
Now... for 3 days straight every time I switched the ignition on, the fan kicked on and the check engine light continued to flash. This morning, during this I wiggled the positive battery wire and the fan immediately stopped and the check engine light went out. Also, there was some red shavings on the terminal connection from the wire boot/cover, I cleaned that and reconnected the battery and the check engine light hasn't come back on again all day. Haven't had a chance for a test ride yet and have had it act normal for a day or two before but am hopeful that was it.

Thanks again.
