I've already posted this in the apparel topic in the knowledge base, but I'm not getting much response so far, so maybe I'll get more here. So, I've finally decided that if I ever want more kids, I have to get some decent riding pants to keep the heat of my Uly away from me. After riding with only jeans for 20 years, the jeans just don't cut it anymore. I'm sure that any riding pants I get will give me better road-rash protection than my jeans, so I'm most concerned with protection from the heat. I'd like to be sweat free after a long ride if possible. I don't know much about pants, so I'm looking for any suggestions... Any pants to avoid? | ||

motoport.com I have the ultra II stretch kevlar. They also can make you pants based on your jeans out of kevlar, so, you can safely fall off your bike! Do some research. Motoport is the ugliest, bulkiest, clunkiest gear you can buy. It's also the safest most comfortable gear you can buy, and, it comes with a 7 year "if we can't fix it after a crash, we replace for FREE" warranty. Can't beat that! | ||

I was wearing Fieldsheer Adventure Pants when I hit the pavement and they performed extremely well. Had not the paramedics cut them to ribbons I'd still be using them. Olympia Motorsports - Ranger pants... worn them almost everyday for the last 2 years, more days in rain than not. Still look good, never leaked. Fortunately have not tested the crash worthiness. | ||

+1 on the motorport/cycleport. I have the Ultra air mesh kevlar overpants. In south georgia, I ride lots in hot, humid weather. These do well at speeds above 35 mph. | ||

I'm happy with the Fieldsheer Mercury pants I got this spring. They definitely do a better job of protecting me from the Uly heat than my previous Joe Rocket mesh pants did. It could be all in my head, but the silver thigh section of the pants seem to reflect some of the sun's heat also. The adjustable knee protection is pretty great also. I have short legs apparently for someone my size so an off the shelf pant without adjustable knee-pads won't work. The Mercury works for me. I wore them on monday on a semi-humid 85F day - on a day like that they are a bit warm in the stop and go traffic, but they are fine at highway speeds. On a super hot and or humid day... well, they would be toasty I reckon. Fortunately - miraculously really - we have not had any of those this summer so far. | ||

I bought Draggin Jeans..made in australia..nothing fancy..Kevlar inside..just normal jeans and Camo fatigue type pants..cotton, with the kevlar inside..nice..not waterproof..but got raingear..they are ok.. | ||

I've got the Olympia Airglide 2 pants for summer (they have mesh panels) and often just wear shorts under them. I hit a deer and went down wearing them with their winter liners, and they did okay. The side zipper ripped open, but the abraision was surprisingly light for as much sliding as I did. I still wear 'em. For cooler temps, I've got the Olympia Ranger 2. Good stuff so far. I'm in the market for armored pants that look like jeans, however. Sometimes you just don't want to look like an astronaut when you're riding. | ||

Have you already done any of a number of mods to assuage the heat emanating from the headers and rear cylinder? My guess is you will want mesh pants for summer riding - well, maybe not given that you are so far north... Try Odie's max heat blanket. And if that's not enough, wrap the pipes. Worked for me. In the summer, I wear kevlar reinforced jeans with Alpinestar strap on (no wise cracks) knee/shin protectors. Great combo for tooling around, running errands, etc. | ||

I've had the Icon Recon jeans for a few years and there are wearing very good.They have reinforced knees and vents and are very comfy. I just purchased the Buell Adventure suit 2 weeks ago and so for I really like it,great venting and padding,I'll wear my frogtogs over it in the rain. | ||

Tginnh, I have done a few of the simpler mods - foil tape under the seat and on the inside frame. I'm also going to block off the space between the seat and frame tonight. I've ordered a heat blanket from Odie, but it hasn't arrived yet and I'm leaving for a 2 week ride tomorrow morning. I'm going to be stopping at a couple of dealerships tomorrow and will buy some pants... Thanks to everyone for their suggestions - I now have a better idea of what I'm looking for. | ||

It seems like every pair of mesh overpants made fit like snow pants. I'd like to see a pair that had padding/armor, mesh, that was not made out of a nylon material that makes so much noise when you walk in them. | ||

I purchased the Scorpion Deuce pants before I left on my trip from Michigan to California. Great pants! have a removable waterproof liner...pants are vented with liner removed. Wore them everyday for 6,600 miles...all types of temp extremes. The pants even zip up the sides for easy on/off | ||

I really like to Rev'it stuff, it fits really well and is well made. I have the mesh pants with the zip-in liner and I like them alot. My hassle is with taking my pants and boots off on the side of the road and hopping around the bike in the dirt putting on the rain liners, but thats another story.... | ||

What do you wear for a jacket? Get the pants that go with it, then the zippers will line up. I really like my TourMaster Flex Convertible Jacket and Pant combination. Rwen, I have the Tour Master set which I got from New Enough too. They are great to deal with BTW and I've bought lots from them over the last few years. I have been having trouble with some of the seams at the sleeve to body area which my wife has been able to fix. It looks like there is not enough overlap on the seams in spots. That said I like the range that this works over. This past Sunday I rode early in the morning at 49-51 degrees, slow warm up and ended at 85 degrees. With the jacket liners it worked fine. Glenn | ||

+1 on buying from New Enough. I have purchased almost all of my riding clothing from them. They always have great prices and there never is a problem with returns. I have had difficulties with other companies. I have a pair of the Joe Rocket Ballistic 7.0 pants. They have a removable waterproof liner, zip up the sides for easy step out and the fit is not to bulky. The material does not does not make nearly as much swishy noises as other pants. |
