I know I should just buy new ones. But, they are for a friend's bike and trying to get it running on a budget (4 at 25bucks each!) The pilot jets in this bike are pretty gunky. Any slick tricks or tips on how to clean these suckers out some? Soaked them overnight in brakleen but that didn't help. |

You could try soaking them really well with oven cleaner (out of the carb, in a metal container)...wash then out with brake cleaner and blow them through with compressed air. I'll bet you can find those jets a LOT cheaper...I'll bet ones you got priced had a Yamaha part number. You could try the piano wire as a last resort, but that will most likely damage them...I don't remember if that thing used Mikuni or Keihn carbs...in any case, you can buy carb parts from a carb distributor and bypass the dealership retail pricing. |

It's a mikuni, and trust me I've searched, not just from the dealership. They are spendy little suckers! |

Brake cleaner never did work on carb stuff, it is quite a bit different chemically. The O'Reilly AP store here has a small half gallon bucket of carb soak, comes with a dipping strainer. Don't get that stuff on you it will eat skin, burn out eyes, etc. Soak over night, lift out the strainer with the parts, rinse with water, blow dry with compressed air. It will make like new parts with no scratches that wires will cause. It cleans the tiny little holes well too. |

An ultrasonic cleaner/bath can work well. Finding someone who has one can be a challenge though. |

I know a guy that works at the Victory factory and he works on bikes at home. He cleans jets in a mix of white vinegar and salt. He leaves them overnight and he says it works great. I've never tried it, but I'd like to. |

if none of the chemical methods work ...i use a propane torch and BURN the crap outta the jets, then blow out with compressed air.( yer-welcome ) |

I've always used carb cleaner, then used a single wire from a wire brush. The wire is stiff enough to dislodge the crud but not hard enough to enlarge the jet. Lot of air helps too. However, keep a grip on the jet, they can really fly with a good puff of air from a air nozzle.... |

Overnight soak in vinegar. Or; borrow your gf's nail varnish remover, (have a good sniff while your at it man) blow clean with & compressed air. Toothpick if you need to poke. DO NOT USE ANYTHING HARDER THAN THE JET MATERIAL. It's very simple, the harder material damages the softer one no matter how careful you think you're being, most are made of brass so a steel wire brush will damage. |

If the cleaning does not work out...I Googled Mikuni Carb Parts and found several vendors that sell pilot jets for around $3.50 each. |

I always use carb cleaner with a strand or two of copper wire and am somewhat gentle with it. Be very careful with harder wire as posed above. |

Vortec, I think someone mistakenly quoted you the whole pack price(that's the way they ae usually listed). If you order 1 from the distributor, you getone pack. They are sold 5 to a pack. So 25 for the whole pack would be typical. |
