Hello S2 enthusiasts, anyone have any jetting tips....... Elevation approximately 1100. The S2 is stock with a Vance and Hines ss2R and a Nallin Hurricane backing plate. Any suggestions would be appreciated. |

883srfast, I cannot give you any help but I know Al at American Sport Bike can. I am looking at replacing the carb on the S1W with a Mikuni as well. I would be interested to hear any results. Frank |

I don't know if you bought that backplate from a sponsor or an non-sponsor, but both of them use Mikunis and could probably help you with tuning advise. |

Michael It should run good out of the box. I have one on my 1250, zipper modified heads, 536 redshift cams, Vance&Hines and it is still rich. Somewhere in the 12:1 to 12.5:1 air fuel ratio area. Joe (Message edited by bad_karma on July 14, 2009) |

I have one on my RS, (which is cleverly disguised as an S2!) but it's a special unit for use with a fuel pump and Aerocharger, so I won't be of much help to you. I think Joe is correct that it will probably be close right from the box. AL |

Frank, I ended up looking in the Knowledge vault some and there were a few notes there and installed it with a larger Pilot jet (No. 27.5). Had to close the air screw some too, about 5/8 in from 2 turns out.....to about 1 3/8 Ran very well with the 97 jet needle at clip position 2 and the 160 main jet right out of the box. Just a bit lean with the 97 at clip position no 2, so I raised it one notch to position no. 3 and it ran so well I rode it well into the night!! Nice carb. Thank you for your interest....right out of the box worked very well just needed a little adjustment or two...... Michael |

Joe, thanks for the useful info.....I don;t have an air fuel mixture sensor/guage etc and did it by the method described in the tuning manual. It was a cool low humidity evening here and I may have ended up being a bit rich too. I'll see how it works today in the 80's and higher humidity. Michael |

Michael, thanks for the info. I am good with the CV 40 on most bikes but to make more than 80hp I need something better for the S1W. Frank |

Michael it is amazing just how much time I spend on the needle circuit. Not surprised that you had to raise the needle. Glad to hear that it work out for you. Joe |

Frank, updated info. As I suspected with the first idle mixture setting it was a bit rich being only in the low 60's and 50's and not waiting long enough for the engine to reach normal temp. I was too anxious to get on and ride! Anyway, the screw is now backed out to the stock setting at 2 turns out and it warms up fully and quickly too with better throttle response etc. I now have it with a 27.5, idle air screw out 2 turns, 97 needle at clip position no. 3 and the main is stock 160. Going for a ride for a couple of days into the WV mountains and am looking for the see how the carb does with altitude changes. Thanks for the support. Michael |

Joe, it is amazing how sensitive the needle setting can be and I have found the stock header with the Vance and Hines muffler to respond to adjustments very well. As I mentioned to Frank, I had the idle mix too rich. Now with idle mix closer it is running very well and now I can just ride in the sweet spot of the needle in corners with excellent throttle response....makes for great cornering control etc. Thanks for the support Joe and I am looking forward to enjoying the S2 and the BadWeb more in the future. Ah yes, the WV Mountains (or as I called them when I lived there; Hills) I was stationed at a Navy base (I was Air Force) in Sugar Grove WV (NSGA Sugar Grove). I had a 97 S1 then and would torment the super fast rice rockets on the roads that I rode every day, twice a day. I think the road was 33 that came out from Harrisonburg VA all the way to the small town by the base. What fun! Thanks for the info. I will be looking to get one when I have some cash to play around with. |

Buellistic, that's the way to do it.. even when i dynoed mine with 2 O2 sensors in it, i noticed, that there was 60% of the fuel going to the front cylinder and 40% to the rear. so whatever i did the rear was always lean compared to the front, it was even worse on full throttle. i took the manifold off, and worked on the rear site to give it more fuel then the front, after 3 times it is 50/50 now. then i adjusted the bike, it runs like a kitten now. i think one of the reasens the older tube buell have big problems with too much heat on the rear cylinder is fuell. i had my s2 with 300 miles on it and dynoed it directly. i have now 9000 miles on it, my rear and front headers have no blue color at all. |
