My Blast helped me rediscover the fun in riding...I bought it when gas was $4.00+ per gallon just for the fuel economy. I discovered that it is the best thumper I have ever owned..and one of the best bikes I have ever had if viewed realistically. On a club ride last Saturday, we had several new riders...one guy was on a new Aprilia...when we stopped for lunch, he told me he though a Blast could only run about 55 mph until he realized I was right behind him the whole run.. Fun??? ohhh yeah. |

Hey Fast, I've seen your Blast, I doubt there's many bikes in Florida you couldn't keep up with...lol |

so I originally posted this (without the pics) out of curiosity. Still really wonder why no Buell signage on them has the Blast become to BMC what BMC is to H/D? the red-headed stepchild theory? They are very cool bikes.Everybody doesn't need or even want 100+horsepower,hell the blacked-out 883's are selling like hotcakes, yet they still wear the H/D badge. |

I was wondering are they taking the Buell labels off the Blast so the non Buell Harley Dealers can buy them Factory direct for their Riders Edge Programs? |

Hey Ez, I notice you got rid of the crazy sweeping stock peg mounts. Did you bolt the pegs directly to the engine case (hard to tell in the pic)? ~SM |

One is a set of Banke rearsets - modified, and the other is a set of rearsets now made by American Sport Bike (Crossroads origionally made them) - both are motor mounted. EZ |

So... just bold new graphics? No difference in the bike other than that? |

Seems the only change is the lack of BUELL on the bike. |

True about the KLR250. Mine was "cutting edge" in 1990. Drum rear brake looked quaint but really worked well. As I recall, I sent it out to the junkyard with 28,000 miles: Had to have the top end rebuilt at 19,000. rear shoes never wore out That's right, the brakes outlasted the engine. |

That's right, the brakes outlasted the engine. I think that says more about the rider than the bike! |

KLR-250 was almost the same mechanically from 1985 through like 2005 or something when they stopped making it. The cams and cam journal caps changed slightly between 1985 and 1987. I still have 80% of an 85 in the garage in zip lock bags. My wife made me throw away the frame though... it was taking up too much space in the garage... That one was missing a title anyway, so aside from interesting scrap metal, it wasn't going to be much use to anyone. Good analogy for the blast. Use fairly simple, straightforward, and economical parts to build a very well executed motorcycle designed to just work well as a motorcycle. (Message edited by reepicheep on July 19, 2009) |

True, however, I and others would love to see an updated Blast with a better transmission, a few more ponies, a mild suspension upgrade, and updated styling cues, with a dual ignition it could still easily do learning/teaching duty, and all that could be done at a consistent price point with a minimum retooling involved. Why don't they - especially since the fans of the bike have have been saying this now for the last seven years or so - I have no clue, but because of this Blast riders have always felt like red headed step children even in pro-Buell camps. Its like Buell can't accept that people would like a bike with less power that is light, handles well, shift smoothly, and is reliable, and modern looking. EZ |

Ez,seems now they don't even want to admit to building it....strange. Has the Blast become to Buell- What Buell is to H/D?

"with a dual ignition" Hmmm what do you mean dual ignition? Do you mean dual plug head? I agree the blast is ready for an update but why mess with success? (Message edited by skntpig on July 19, 2009) |

With a duel curve ignition they could have two running curves, a newbe curve, and a sporting curve - no biggie in today's programming ability - the SE ignition formerly offered for the Blast had a large choice of curves or you could even program it. What I am talking about is no where as exotic. Remove cover, flip switch, put on cover. Basically the same thing with less fuss, adding a plug to program is an option as well - Why mess with it? because it is becoming dated even in the basics, and Buell isn't selling period pieces, but cutting edge, so to stay with the family it has earned updating. As it is, it is reflected upon as neglected for that reason, it would take so little to change that, and nothing. EZ |

And the updates could consolidate parts with the XB bikes and that means less parts for dealers to stock. |

I like that XB-like Blast farther up the thread. That's downright sexy. I think the dual curve ignition would be sweet. B-King and other sport bikes have them. I love my Blast to death, but I wouldn't mind a little more get up and go while it's fine as-is for Riders Edge purposes. It'd make the bike even better as a beginner bike, because it could take a rider longer to get beyond its abilities. |

Perhaps the Blast is now an H-D product? I found this ad inside the "front cover" of my Sept. issue of Cycle World:

PS: EZ, I concur as well. Sometimes I still miss my 2000 Blast. But then, I'd rather lose a finger or two than give up my XB12R. That is, unless I can immediately replace it with an XB12XT. Or maybe an 1125XT... Anyway, here's hoping that *something* will replace the Blast in Buell's lineup. Can't wait for the other shoe to drop! (Message edited by davefla on July 22, 2009) |

We got our first one yesterday. Still about 1/2 inch too high for me. Of course, I'm REALLY short. It's black. I mention that in case Court needs to come down and see one. You hear me Court? ->ChelleM |
