Author Message   Duck Posted on Tuesday, February 18, 2003 - 04:10 pm:        I have a 2000 M2 with 52,000 on it. I've had the starter replaced once under warranty and the starter clutch(SC) replaced/rebuilt three times. Yesterday the SC went again. I also had a bad battery replaced within the first month of owning the bike. That coincided with the first SC replacement. I have had no other electrical problems other than the speedo sensors that we all seem to deal with. Twice I noticed the SC going bad. The other times it just stopped working. Last night the motor just shut down as I was riding. When I tried to start it back up the starter would just spin. No problem with the lights. I am posting this to see if anyone else is having these troubles. I figured as much having not seen too many complaints before. I guess I just got some bad luck with my M2. When it's running it's one hell of a bike. Problem is it spends far too much time broke down. For the first time since I've owned this bike I'm looking for something else. BWB, Thanks for all of your help in the past.   Mikej Posted on Wednesday, February 19, 2003 - 01:16 pm:        The only real problems I've heard of with the starters is with the wiring connector where the battery cable bolts to the starter, the problem is usually with the terminal crimp and wire flexing. You've got more miles than many on your M2, I'm just over 20k on mine. No problems with the starter at all on mine.   Duck Posted on Friday, February 21, 2003 - 10:35 am:        Turns out it wasn't my starter. I better stick to my line of work. Anyway a $5 or $6 dollar part is costing me over $300 when all is said and done. Keep in mind that I don't know anything about this. A nut that holds on the pinion gear and a few other things backed off all on it's lonesome and tried to kill my motor. Luckily nothing that broke up damaged the oil pump. Something called a keyway apparently broke in half as well. I gotta get home and look at my service manual so I can get a better idea of what the hell I was just told. The interesting thing for me was that the symptoms for this and the starter clutch going out on me were so close to each other.
