You have a lot of decisions to make. What are you using the bike for? Do you want a fully adjustable one or semi adjustable one? Racing or riding? street and track days, Or race only? Single riding or 2up? options are: Expensive is right $900-1200 1.fully adjustable top of the line and user serviceability 2.partial adjustable shock (not sure if its rebuild-able) 3.Call race tech and see if stock one can be re-built 4.find a used works or penske and re-built it if needed For me it was worth the extra money to get the best than mess around with a $500 re-built and improved stock shock, I.E. better valves and seals I am still stuck with the 2nd recall shock and the factory said they had no more units to warranty with and were very sorry that there is nothing they can do for me. Oh well it was worth a shot. The new works will be here soon!! I am toying with the idea of sending my old shock to race tech for re-build and upgrade and then sell it on badweb. Race tech ph# 1-915-279-6655 Things to ask about 1.labor for work and oil-nitrogen 2.gold valve upgrade kit 3.new upgraded spring for your weight 4.shipping my quote was for an x1 shock $422+tax and shipping. |

You can rebuild the shock your self, see the KV http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?tpc=3842&post=1449822#POST1449822 |

If you're not into rebuilding your shock this is from my email from Race Tech. Yes Jim, This shock is rebuildable. The labor is a flat $105, $15 for fresh fluid, and anywhere from $12-$51 on parts that might be needed. You will go ahead and send your shock to: Race Tech c/o Service Dept. 1501 Pomona Rd Corona, CA 92880 Thank you |

My race tech experience was less than stellar, I was quoted almost 300$, and charged 30$ for a quart of majic poring fluid. I asked questions about its workings and repairs, the individual I spoke to was not knowledgable about the shock both issues ( price and answers ) not good. try moto pro up in oregon John knows his stuff... |

Jason I would recommend a Workes or a Penske by far the best upgrades I have made to my tubers. Get the forks rebuilt if required, correct spring rate and improved valving. It's a bit pricey but I do not think you will regret it. Joe (Message edited by bad_karma on July 16, 2009) |

Jason, I'm seriously considering the rebuild route. Maybe you could bop on down to Maple Grove and we could do two at once, you're only about 45 min away. Just a thought.. Brad |

After Shocks rebuilt mine, worked much better than new. Custom valving and dialed in for my weight when it came back, I only softened the compression 1/4 turn to make it perfect. Can't recall the price $275-300 I think, I still have the credit card receipt. My only problem with them was the lock ring spun loose when I took it to the track, it held up fine until then - I really worked the shock out though... FWIW. I think there's a Works store on ebay, maybe they have something, it's a long shot though. |

for the record MotoPro is in oregon and I cant remember the number, its not a kit you need fluid, seals, bushings these items are not a kit, you can get belray localy get the stuff from John at motopro, 425-844-0661. Race Tech, lists the shock as a 14mm shaft not so, you need 2 bushings 16 mm dia, 2 lengths totaling 28mm or less please see the KV article by Ben M2 and me |
