Has anyone adapted an XB front wheel and perimeter brake to an early style tuber front fork? i know folks have adapted complete fork assemblies, but what about caliper hangers, spacers, ect to use the late model wheel and brake without changing the fork? |

Steve, you probably read my previous post, so you know I'm working on it . Hals has the spacers to run the XB rear wheel on the tuber axle. I picked mine up from a friend, and also an XB caliper and rotor. So far my cost has only been $100. I'm waiting for an equally cheap set of XB wheels, rear rotor and pulley. |

Search for Joesbuell post, very nice conversion of an S3 to an XB hybrid. Joe |

Joe, jodie's bike uses XB forks. Steve (Maru) is looking for conversions using factory tuber forks. |

Go into an archive search for Sanchez's posts on this too, he had a sweet set up until he crashed. |

Another approach to the XB front wheel and brakes on a tuber: Assuming your tuber has upside down forks. The XB12 SCG uses 41 MM forks. If they arent to short then the lowers could probably be used with the cartridges from the stock forks, and end up with @ the stock tuber ride height. They can be shorter than the stock forks as long as they don't drop the upper bushing below the anodised surface of the fork upper. Or alternativley the cartridge from the scg could be used and end up with shorter forks and a steeper rake. I have done this type of thing in the past with good results on other makes. |

I think tuber upside down forks are 42mm. I don't know if that ^ will work, but a good idea if it would. |

The tuber USD forks are 41MM if you don't believe me you can confirm this at www.racetech.com. Just out of curiosity can someone with parts lookup powers lookup the part number for say a 2008 XB12 SCG, fork lowers for bikes with USD forks are usually available by sepratly. |

i have a bracket that adapts the XB front caliper to the standard 99-02 forks properly... just need to clean up the design a lil and test it out (would hate the try a stoppie and flip the bike ) |

That sounds all good and well, but if I use XB lowers I still have to use an XB fender, which I'm not going to do. I'm not overly worried about the stock ride height anyway; as soon as I have the ROMAs rebuilt I'm going to have them shortened (internally)1-1.5". |

Adapting the tuber fender to xb lowers probably wouldn't be impossible or even that difficult. in my unqualified opinion doing the least amount re engineering possible is prefered. and adapting a fender and bolting in a different set of lowers is far less re engineering than making a custom bracket and adapting the xb axle to the tuber lowers wrt lowering the bike, changing the lowers to shorter ones wouldn't lower the bike, the issue is that if the upper bushing gets outside the range of the anodized inner surface on the fork upper and rides in that area, then it will have a bunch more stiction when topped out, which probably wouldn't be dangerous, but it would quickly wear out the upper bushing. As I said however there is a good chance that at the stock ride height the anodized surface is longer than the travel of the stock lower by enough that with a marginally shorter fork lower there would be no issue. The above wouldn't be an issue at all if you were lowering the fork, by the standard method of shortening the cartridge only or shortening both the cartridge and the upper. As it turns out all of the 03 and 04 XB models have 41MM forks. So the length would probably not be an issue regardless if getting say 04 standard XB12 fork lowers. So out of curiosity I called the local dealer. The retail price on the "fork slider" kits complete with bushing seals dust covers washers and of course the fork lower is 120 per side. Therefore they should be available from one of the discount houses for under 100 per side. This would be the way to go, replace almost all the wearing parts in the fork and at the same time adapt the wheel and brake over like the factory did it for less money than a set of used XB12 forks go for. On my side of the coin, the engineering (with the help of a couple friends as well) is cheaper and than the simpler option and therefore more viable for my case. What you said makes sense, and I commend it, but does not fit in my budget for this project. Later I will have another budget for rebuilding the front forks, but I don't want to merge the two projects. I can find a way to fit the XB wheel on the forks for less than $200. My goal is to not have much more than $450 in the whole project, and so far I have rear wheel spacers, front caliper and rotor for $100. |

Texas, id be interested in a couple of those brackets and front wheel spacers if you have made those also. Steve |

Nick, I didn't even see your post! I'll bíte about that bracket. I remember reading about your post before but I didn't think about it. Any lead on some wheel spacers? |

ALL parts are currently STILL in the design and testing phase. I make all parts in house but ALL still need to be tweeked (this is kinda of important to get perfect IMO... saftey and all). but don't worry guys... this isn't the last you're hearing of this and there definatly will be LOTS of pics! |
