Cout, Looks like a regular plain old Minnesota snow storm. They don't even bother with the snow plows until it gets to 3 or 4". Glad it's you folks and not us! We've had a pretty mild winter so far. The heavy stuff keeps sliding south of us. Happy digging!  Brad | ||

No, I do not. I'm from, remember, Kansas and recall working on a day when the ambient was -24oF and the wind chill was -67oF. New Yorkers are funny people. So far today, I've been cautioned that it would be extraordinarily foolish to venture out. The news came from idiots who ventured out to tell me that. I can see anything from my window they can see from the Jersey Turnpike. I live in an affluent land of SUVs. Folks have waited and waited for the chance to make perfect Asses of themselves, they are seizing the opportunity to excel today and are being rescued live on the extended morning news coverage. Aaron loves data and abhors misconstrued data. Dig this, the Wx geek with the ruler and the yardstick plunges the ruler into the snow and declares, "there's only 8" here", then turns and plunges the yardstick, declaring "but some areas have up to 24". Uh, excuse me Biff; the drift you just plunged that yardstick into was created by the massive plow that passed while you were swinging the yap door. There's an art to knowing how to relax, to do nothing. Those who were involved in Buell (to quote a knowledgeable source "a million years ago" ) may recall the piece I wrote in 1995, entitled "Thoughts on Thinking" and how most of us, raised in the Hyper-Double-Type-AA generation are at really doing "nothing". My preliminary observations today are that Katie Couric looks better in a white parka than Matt does with ear flaps. Al Roker, the weatherman, is to be commended for demonstrating the intellectual wherewithal to stay inside to do his forecast. Whiz kids statement from a gal who HAS to be a blonde bimbo under the blue cap "it's looking kinda snowy". I'd say she has a keen grasp of the obvious! Court | ||

More WSMC racing news: First, I saw the weirdest thing out there: an S1 with a Blast engine. Wild. There were a couple of Firebolts out there. One pulled a third in middleweight twins (1st -748, 2nd SV650), a couple of Blasts and a few S1's. San Diego Harley has a rather big presence out there, as does Bartel's. Next, my second race went great! I dialed in my suspension better and dropped a few seconds a lap. I ended up 12th out of 31 people, so I'm on the right track. Best of all, I'm having a great time out there (and I lapped someone, too). If you've ever thought about racing: DO IT!!! DO IT NOW!!!  Vik | ||

How do you play Buell? My take is that its a game in which you have to acquire the most Buells possible. The one with the most wins. Right now Aaron is winning. Then Josh and I are in second with 4 and Dave is close behind with 3. But I ampresently working on a 5th. I'm catching you Aaron!! | ||

does anybody know what vin numbers were effected by the old primary chain tensioner for the m2? i have a 2000 m2 and do not want to pull the whole primary cover off if i do not have to. thanx for the info. | ||

Orngm2... If you call customer service, they can probably tell you. My 2000 m2 was built 10/4/99, number 4mzks11j6y3300812, and it DID need the updated tensioner (the old one had already split the backplate, but fortunately all parts were still captive). While you have them on the phone, check with them to make sure you did not get one of the defective... oh heck, which was it... maybe the countershaft nut? The mainshaft nut? I can't remember, but there was a 1 month window of those that had bad nuts that could back off. It was discussed in the knowledge vault. If somebody does not pop in here and remind us I will hunt it up. Anybody remember what I am talking about? One of the big nuts (sprocket, mainshaft, countershaft... I cant remember). There was a very small batch of defectives from a supplier, that they narrowed down to 1 month that they could have been installed. | ||

I called the factory about this on my bike, and they indicated that it was a very small number of bikes produced during a very short period of time. They were able to tell me if mine was one of them or not (it wasn't). You are probably fine. Bill | ||

Blake: The races are six laps long, 2.7 miles per lap. On Saturday I started with 1:42's and 1:41's. The suspension changes got me down to 1:39's and then on Sunday, with winds gusting at 30 MPH, I dropped into the 1:38's. In 550 Superbike and Middleweight twins the race winners were in the 1:32's, so I still have a ways to go; but, I'm feeling great! Vik | ||

Blake: Fastest track west of the Mississippi. The motorcycle record is in the 1:21 range. This weekend with the wind, the Formula guys were only pulling 1:23's. Most of the track is fast. I'm in 5th gear in turns 1 and 2, drop to 4th for 3 and 3rd for 4, kicking back up to 4th for 5 and 5th right past 6. Somewhere around 7 I hit 6th and try to keep it pinned through 8. Downshift to 5th for 9 and then pin it down the straight. Turn 4 is actually 3 turns. Uphill for the first part, 4a, 4b just past the crest of the hill and then 4c heading down hill. Pain in the a$$ of a corner. 3 and 5 are also a little tricky (I scraped my shifter in three...with 2 Bros. rearsets). I also broke loose the rear tire there. A lot of people run off the course on 5. The rest of the turns aren't so bad, except 6, where you completely unload your suspension while leaned over as you crest Monroe ridge. The streets of Willow is a much more technical course and I think I would like it better; but, The sheet speed of the big track is a rush. You really have to get past the "oh $hit" factor in your head. I can't wait to her about your first race. It's such a great feeling! Vik WSMC #555, AFM #554 | ||

Way to go Vik! ------------------- When I was at the IMS in Seattle last December I was impressed by a guy that was polishing the bottom of soda pop cans with what he said was the best metal polish ever made. He had a bunch of pop cans with VERY shinny bottoms and seemed to do it without much effort. I just spent less than two minutes with two dabs of Simichrome paste and a paper towel and now I have a pop can with a shinny bottom too. I was so pleased with the result that I left the unopened pop can out for my wife to admire and fixed myself a dry Vodka Martini. That would be your basic win-win situation I believe. If I have two more Martini’s I might end up with a shinny bottom myself. | ||

Most excellent Vik!! Thrilled to see that you are following your dream (or one of). An enthusiast you must be!! Please keep us posted. Today I am home in Kelowna for a break, went for a little blast on the S3, around the lake a ways. Temperature is about 45-50 deg. F. Tommorrow I fly back up north for a few weeks, its -20-30 there right now. Believe it or not, BWB and Sacborg help me to keep my sanity up there. | ||
