One of the smaller aftermarket mufflers like the Jardine saves weight. Buell makes race wheels out of magnesium-not sure if they are street legal though. You COULD take off all the fairings. Basically we have a different animal though and must live with their flaws. |

we weigh three hundred lbs more... Uh.....more than what? A 100cc trials bike maybe? Funny thing is you look the bike over, to keep it street legal, most anything that can be tossed is light weight plastic or aluminum. Hell, run low on gas, 1.5 qts of oil, 3/4 of a quart of trans oil, bald tires, and worn out brake pads, they are lighter! |

Not sure what you are talking about Ttags? An xb9s weighs 390lbs and a cbr600rr weighs 410lbs |

Dry Weight 395 lbs. Gross Rating 850 lbs. I got that from the Buell webpage. Does that mean there's 455lbs of liquid? |

I sure hope that you're being sarcastic. The gross weight is the bike fully loaded. Passengers and gear. |

Gross weight is ALL fluids + big rider + big passenger. I try to take a power dump before riding. I don't ride with a passenger so I'd recommend you tell your passenger to do the same. You can save 10 pounds right there. (Message edited by slaughter on July 12, 2009) |

It'll be cheaper and easier for YOU to shed some pounds than your bike. |

By the way, when I referred to a "power dump" I wasn't referring to heavy throttle and clutch usage from a standing start. |

ok, so three hundred, little high, but really nobody is modifying bracketry, removing unecessary BS, or swiss cheesing parts? and i im 5 11, weigh 150 even, no room to lose lbs there... haha and yeah, im one for an asthetically pleasing bike also, so farings and the cool shit stays... just took a power dump, my damn scale says i still weigh 150!!! wtf! |

Dang. You're not BIG enough to lose a whole lotta weight without amputating legs or something. seriously though, a slip-on exhaust can is probably one of the better ways to drop some pounds... but it's down low to begin with so doesn't really affect your handling all that much. You could buy a Speedcell battery - save you about 5 pounds over the stocker... but costs about $250 Almost anything to remove weight is gonna cost some coin! (and won't really work on a streetbike with a passenger) |

ok, so three hundred, little high, What planet do you live on? The GSX R600 weighs 433. Speed triple is 430 something. Iam not going to go look up every sport bike because the only bikes remotely lighter than the XB's are dirtbikes and mopeds. Seriously WTF?} |

Hahahahahahahaha! Magnesium wheels and a carbon slip-on will get you pretty light. As for "cheese grating" parts? Who the hell wants to forgo structual integrity so u can loose .024lbs? My tip, cheese grate your frame. That's the biggest piece of metal on the bike............... |

Is it really that hard to answer somebody's question without being an ignorant ass? Based on what you mentioned before about keeping the cosmetics of the machine intact, there isn't much you can remove or alter in order to shed weight. Carbon parts and a lightweight exhaust will be the greatest. However, those wouldn't be significant gains in weight reduction. |

The wet weight for a stock XB is around 460-470 lbs. I'm not sure of the wet weight for the Uly, but I believe all the other XB's fall into that range. (Message edited by boltrider on July 12, 2009) |

Ditch the charging system and use speedcell quick swap batteries Remove all bodywork, front fairing mountslights, gauges, kickstand, non mission critical stuff Shopping cart wheels Replace motor with a Blast single Swiss cheese the frame and use a water bottle as fuel cell. |

Gross rating is what the vehicle, all fluids, passengers and cargo weigh. Texas DOT was very clear on that when they pulled my truck over. I think this guy thought that Gross is what the bike weighs. |

"is it really that hard to answer somebody's question without being an ignorant ass?" Brandon_m= You are an idiot- A. In what part of my answer to his question was I being ignorant? (I understand the ass part, because I was joking with him about HIS ignorance) B. Your response had the same info as mine, only by the time you said it, it was redundant, which makes you an ignorant. C. For being an ignorant idiot, u should be riding a Harley not a Buell. |

dealer told me it weighed close to 600. i just assumed that was dry... thanks for the umm, unconventional, responses ... those of you whom actually answered seriously, thank you... its so much easier when we get simple to the point answers. weight sucks.. lose weight go faster.. simple...more reliable(as compared to engine mods)... and a lot easier than changing pistons and cam... i've lost the stock muffler, removed the muff actuator and cable, i've seen rear sections modified to reduce weight, thought about swiss cheesing the headlight/dash bracket(very thick with lots of supports)... questoned modifying the upper 'triple tree'?? the part that attaches handlebars to neck, there are three spots that appear to be perfect to cut out..... the engineers at buell look to save money.period. if machining a part is too expensive, they will leave excess material there... i wanna take the steps that they didnt... and i'm sorry i didn't do all the research before hand. one correction instead of twelve would have sufficed... for the most part you guys are a huge help... and i do REALLY appreciate it!!! |

It's not worth swiss cheesing the headligh/dash bracket... It's made of magnesium. Go with CF body work, lighter subframe, magnesium wheels, lighter battery, remove the starter, remove the headlights and mirrors and blinkers, inner airbox cover, passenger pegs (and maybe mill off the mounting bosses), aftermarket can, composite front pulley, titanium springs, all titanium bolt set, ceramic bearings... Maybe there's more but we're probably up to at least $10-15K so far... You can't make them "much" lighter and they're already in the ballpark for sure. Just ride the thing . |
