In the factory service manuel, it says that you can check the rear suspension by siting on the bike and measuring between the center of the bolts that hold the shock on. I think it was something like 15 inches to 15 1/2 inches and you were good. My question is if those numbers are true. I read on one of these threads that those numbers werent correct. Does anyone know for sure. Thanks, Matt Tully |

Yeah, to set the preload. With rider seated on the bike, optimum preload will give a distance between the front and rear shock eyes as 15.2-15.5 in. '01 X-1 FSM. |

Thanks for the info akbuell, but my question is are those numbers correct. I read a post on here a week or so ago, that said something about the FSM not being correct on those numbers. So I was trying to see what the correct numbers were, or if those are the correct numbers. Thanks again, Matt Tully |

Matthew You could always set sag and then check the shock distance to verify. Make sure that your shock is in god working condition. Hope to be in the mountains the last week of this month 33 to Parkersburg, 16 south on to the Dragon and some assortment of roads back to the low lands of Virginia. Won't be as far west as you are. PM sent, in your bio you talk of WOT problems, the part about backing off and the bike accelerates. If that where a carburetor I would say your main is lean. Joe |
