Well, I just got a call from a friend of mine, one of my best friends that lives in NC was blown up this morning in Afghanistan. He has 3 kids and just re-inlisted. Just sucks pretty bad.

so, i got my motor out and discovered my "big" leak was a rocker box gasket. the question is: do i rebuild it anyhow cuz i got it apart? or do i just let it be. the front head bolts do have a little oil around them, but it looks old so i'm not too concerned. i really dont want to tear the jugs off and then need to hone and replace rings to do it right. my gut is telling me to leave well enough alone. and just check the torque on the head bolts to make sure everything's kosher. what youse guys think?

Thanks guys, it seems like it is always something. I do appreciate your thoughts.

Father in-law is healing well physically. Mental he is on another planet and is talking but not making any sense and you can not have any direct conversation with him. He is having a lot of Vietnam flashbacks, they had to restrain him a couple days ago, he lost it when a Philippino nurse entered the room. Scary, it's gonna be a slow recovery if it all.

here's the leak. sprayed oil all over the fan, and would've gone unnoticed if it hadn't started spraying onto my pulley cover. i also found that my spark plug wires were almost chaffed thru to the conductor. the underside of that fin under the exhaust bolt is covered in oil too. that's why i originally thought it was a head gasket. cant tell anything till you rip it out.

looks like a leaky rocker gasket, Why did ya pull the motor for that? could have changed that while it was still in the frame.

Good practice either way!

Jeff sorry to hear about your friend. Seems as though this summer has been filled with a lot of tragedies.

Looks like we have another victim of the rear rocket box leak. You would think that with todays technology we would have gaskets that don't leak.

Is anyone riding this weekend? The weather looks good for both Saturday & Sunday!!
