Does anyone know where I can get a hex tool to break the axle and swing arm pivot bolts loose? The manual says to use the tool kit, but guess what....neither of mine came with a tool kit! I have the XB12R and it appears to be 22MM or 7\8 inch hex. Is Harley the only place to get this tool? May seem a silly question, but I try not to pay too much for tools and when I went to get the 1 and 7\8 inch pulley socket, they wanted $160!! No thanks! ANy info would be greatly appreciated! |

I got one that looks like a giant allen wrench. I think it cost around $30. Can't remember the size off the top of my head. Now I need one for the front, anybody know what size that is? (Message edited by zatco81 on July 08, 2009) |

They're the same size. The adapter that comes in the kit fits both front and back. I have mine pulled apart as we speak. ~SM |

7/8" The whole toolkit is like $20 if you wanted to go that route. |

Er, I got my socket at Advance for like $7...? You don't need a 1-7/8, just a 7/8. That's why the price quote was so high. ~SM |

I don't have the tool kit. I bought a giant allen wrench for the rear axle and it DOES NOT fit the front. So...does anybody know what size the front axle is? |

Yeah, I picked a 1-7\8 socket up at Tractor Supply for $9. I think I will just buy the tool kit then. There is a tool that works for the wheels, but I am trying to get a motor out and there is an allen the same size , but doesn't go as deep and is rounded at the swingarm. This is what I need to get out! Sorry, should have mentioned that before. It is an 04 XB12R and the pivot bolt rounds out on the inside. |

The 100+ 1-7/8 from the dealer is probably the one that is also used for the big twin that goes over the input shaft so it is custom... |

Isn't there a trick to take a LARGE spark plug socket(which has the 7/8" hex at one end), flip it around, and shove a long 3/8 drive extension in the spark plug end? I feel like this would work, but not give enough leverage on the axle. |

Thanks 03firebolt! I think that may work for me! The one that my buddy brought back had the 22mm fitting on the other side so it wound up being to deep for the pivot axle on the swing arm. This one has it on the end and i think that is the tool I need! |

yep. its actually a really great tool, and ive tried making them and using the harley one. None of the others compared to this, so its worth the money spent on it if you are planning on taking your axel out more than once. |

Why not use a coupler nut p/n 90264A221 at McMaster Carr, but should be easy to get at a good hardware store? Should be the cheapest and the tool kit item is just a glorified coupler nut. You would need a socket to use with your torque wrench, but that isn't in the tool kit anyway. |

Ducbsa. I found some couplers at the Tractor Supply and they said 7\8th couplers. I was very excited until I went to try and put a wrench on it and it was too large. I'm not sure if the ones on Mcmaster Carr are the same or not, but maybe they are talking about the thread diameter. Have you used this with any success? That part number is a 1/2"- 13 nut, which is 7/8" across the flats. My tool is .860" and my axle is 7/8". |

I lost my nut/tool for a while(left it in the shop and one of the guys tossed it in a bolts drawer). For a replacement I used a bolt with a 7/8" head with a couple of like sized nuts jambed together. It works great. |
