That's what happened in France a few years ago, along with a crackdown on speeding. All instigated by the man who is now President, Nicolas Sarkozy.
As a professional driver, I've observed the change over the last 10 years here & it's been remarkable, a major improvement.
Yes people bleated about the ad campaigns & the infringement of their liberty etc etc, but the death toll has dropped dramatically, the results speak for themselves.
Road safety campaigns (not just in France) have changed attitudes. It's no longer socially acceptable to drink & drive just about anywhere in Europe, no bad thing in my opinion.
I'm all for anything that makes my workplace & my playground a better place to be.
