Hey guys I need some help. I have only had my 1125 for few months and noticed today that the dot 4 fluid in my resvior for the clutch is black but my brake one is ok. I was going to change it with new but was wondering if there was a way to do it without getting air in it. I normally just pull a vaccum on the brake bleeder and pour new fluid in top until I get clean fluid out. I dont see anyway to do that with the clutch? |

There's a bleeder valve on the clutch outer housing. You can put your vacuum bleeder on that point, too. You can see the clutch bleeder valve (with rubber cap on it) here, to the left of the Buell 1125R logo:

Actually, just make sure you keep clean fluid in the reservoir and you won't have a problem. (Message edited by gscrasher on July 06, 2009) |

So what are you going to do in a month or three when it get's dark, again? My point is the color really doesn't matter. What does matter, is that you change it out per the maint. schedule. One other little hint is to strap the clutch lever to the bar to allow it bleed. This won't work if there is a lot of air but, to keep it bled down it works wonders. Time2Ride Neil S. |

I see what your saying. I was under the impression that if the dot 4 fluid turned black that there had been water or moister in the fluid. |

Especially on the clutch system you will see oxidizing quicker (in street riding) than the brake system. The engine heat is the culprit here. At 23,000= miles on my 08' 1125 the clutch fluid is much darker, but not black, than the brake side. Oops, I just remembered that I flushed my brake and clutch when I installed the longer lines for my Convertibars, so I probably only have 1/2 that mileage on this fill of DOT 4. I have learned this from my Honda ST1300 with 84,000+ miles. Per Honda, I have flushed both the clutch and brake systems every 24,000 miles. After a complete flush, I will see the DOT 4 darken in about 3,000-4,000 miles but, the clutch actuation does not change. Time4Sleep Neil S. |
